Today we’d like to introduce you to TDO Von-T.
Hi TDO, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sacramento, California native ‘Von-T” is an American rapper, DJ, singer & songwriter who first really got into music in 2018 with little experience. In January 2019, after the music video for the hit single titled “Turn Off the Lights”” went viral on the internet accumulating over a million views on World Star Hip-Hop his career really took off. This drew to the curiosity as to who is the man in the mask. Von-T also works all different genres of music with their own unique sound. Von-T wears a helmet, but the real purpose remains unknown. This is because when asked he always tells a different story. Owner and CEO of Symbiotic Music Group also now known as Symbiotic Music Family or SMF. In 2024, the single titled “Get Doe” is his most successful single to date and is rapidly spreading across the internet. He spent many years in the United States military but also has much respect in the culture and is known as TDO Von-T The Hope. He has produced hip-hop music, EDM, 80’s *retro” music, rock and roll music and emo rap music just to start. He was criminally charged in the Army because he made Hip-Hop music and the single “Turn Off the Lights” being targeted specifically. His situation grows as he continues to reach the world and spread the story about the U.S. Army, the U.S. government and its racial practices. In response to this action he founded and created Americans Make America Great or AMAG. This is an agenda that spreads kind actions across the world to remind everyone we are better than what we are portrayed at around the world today. We are already great through our everyday actions. His base followers and fans are now nudging Von to appear in politics because of what he stands for. He has partnered with hundreds of other brands and companies around the world who believe he might have it takes to save a portion of humanity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with everything in life this has been a challenge. It is a constant fight with social media, short attention spans and the algorithm that tries to shut you down. Not to mention he just recently had his trademark Google account hacked [email protected] by the United States government, which YouTube nor Google did anything about. This forced his team to create a new one [email protected]. This was a failed attempt cross multiple organizations to silence his music and message. In which they have tried on many occasions, including but not limited to denying him medical coverage, car insurance, and set conditions up for him to foreclose on his home.
The industry doesn’t seem to be concerned with talent that has substance. They are currently only focused on what “sells”. You will not find freedom in what you love to create until you no longer work for money anymore. Paving your own road to success, never giving up, and standing for something is the alternative way on how to make all your work in this industry seem worth it. This is highlighted in his tracks such as “Get Doe” and Rudy Hxtble”. He recently went to Alaska and met with Jason Vukovich AKA The Alaskan Avenger. They have a huge project they are working on, and this will connect their stories with the story of how many are feeling in America today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
TDO Von-T stands out from other artists due to his unique blend of music styles and his dedication to social activism. His music spans genres such as hip-hop, EDM, 80’s retro, rock and roll, and emo rap, each with its own distinct sound and message. Von-T’s lyrics often reflect his personal experiences and the struggles of those alike, making his music a powerful statement against systemic oppression. His viral success and vocational challenges in the military have also made him a relatable figure for many, resonating with listeners who understand the struggles of serving in the armed forces and literally fighting to survive in an America where the battle between Democrats and Republicans have left majority of the people stuck in the middle and forgotten about. Von-T’s “Operation Musical Freedom” initiative, AMAG, and his commitment to changing the laws that allowed his experiences to be targeted in the first place further set him apart from other artists. His live performances and collaborations with artists, producers, and companies globally demonstrate his vision and goal-oriented projects. Von-T’s influence extends beyond music, as he encourages listeners to support his cause and join AMAG movement to restore and balance. He is also a well-known brand promoter and uses his platform to align with not only hundreds of brands big or small, but sometimes entire locations to enhance awareness and uses this method to take his music and message to new fans and followers faster.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
TDO Von-T has already made a significant and multifaceted impact on the music culture and modern-day societal living through his unique background, music, activism, independent artistry, and very unique “one of a kind” kind of way of promoting brands. He followers no standard, no traditional format, and no rules when posting about what are facts. His entertaining and truthful experiences around the world is one of the core principles of what AMAG is built off of. His influence can be understood through the following key dimensions which we can see expanding in 5 or 10 years:
1. Innovative Independent Artist and Genre Fusion
Von-T is an independent artist who blends diverse musical styles within and beyond traditional Hip-Hop, including EDM, 80’s Retro Synthwave, Rock & Roll, Emo Rap, Trap, and R&B, but that’s just to start. This genre fluidity broadens the boundaries of the music culture, showing its adaptability and fusion capacity in the modern era.
His ownership of Symbiotic Music Group underscores his commitment to artist autonomy and creative control over direction over money, reflecting a growing trend in hip-hop toward independence from major labels. We hope to see this trend grow with more talented artists over the years to come.
2. Authentic Storytelling and Representation
Formerly a U.S. Army Captain, Von-T uses his music as a platform to express his personal struggles, experiences of institutional discrimination, and broader systemic injustices, especially racial profiling in the military and in America.
His viral single “Turn Off the Lights” (2019) became emblematic of expressing resilience and critique of oppressive systems within America, gaining over a million views and connecting deeply with audiences seeking authentic narratives. As more people tell their story he hopes to set the trend for turning pain into passion, because that is how you truly connect with the real people of the world.
3. Activism and Social Justice Advocacy
Von-T’s activism is intrinsically linked with his music. Launching “Operation Musical Freedom,” he campaigns to end racial discrimination in the armed forces and America, specifically addressing the unjust targeting of hip-hop culture within the military, and systemic racism that plagues minority youth.
His efforts build on hip-hop’s legacy as a voice for marginalized communities and an instrument for social change, leveraging his platform to push for legislative and cultural shifts.
As a brand ambassador and advocate, he embodies hip-hop’s tradition of socio-political engagement, inspiring fans and peers alike. We hope to see and gain endorsements or donations for a retirement from the Army he never received and his AMAG movement, which we see spreading to the everyday people caught in the middle, that just want to live happy, treat their neighbor fair, and provide a way for their family to make it in an ever so taxing and toxic world we are all living in right now.
4. Cultural Symbolism and Visibility
Recognizable by his custom helmet and distinctive style, Von-T presents a strong visual and cultural identity, contributing to hip-hop’s rich iconography.
His rapid global spread through digital platforms highlights the empowerment of independent artists in the digital age to reach audiences worldwide without traditional gatekeepers. We hope to see this continue to be the case whether it be politics, music, or promotions.
5. Encouraging Creative Freedom and Safe Spaces
Through Symbiotic Music Group, Von-T fosters an environment where creatives can work without fear of institutional retaliation, contrary to his own experiences. This supports artistic freedom within the music culture, encouraging innovation and expression. In the coming years we will be looking for even more like mined artists to grow and build each other up with.
6. Chart Success and Industry Recognition
With singles like “Lit” and “Anything 4 U” charting on apple music and trending on Pandora and dropping hot singles like “Get Doe” and “Rudy Hxtble” Von-T demonstrates that independent, message-driven music can achieve commercial success and will influence or compete with the industry’s perception of artist viability outside major labels. In the next years you can bet he will not let up and keep fighting for Americans as he has always done and always will until his last breath. Never letting up and will never capitulate under intense pressure from a corrupted government and governmental systems set in place to hold us all back.
