Rising Stars: Meet Sara Brady of Whittier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Brady.

Hi Sara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Not sure where to start exactly, my life has taken so many twists and turns. I like to say I have an extensive collection of name tags and hairnets. I am currently the Owner of a small boutique yoga studio in Whittier, Ca. called Queen Cobra yoga. Now if you would have told this rock and roll singer 8 years ago that she’d be waking up at 4:30 am and teaching yoga to some of the most incredible people I have ever met, I would have said you’re crazy. I’ve spent most my life and still do singing. I spend most my weekends as the front woman of a local band called Witches Ride. So, between being a mom, music, and Yoga life, I also stay busy traveling and riding my 1966 Triumph motorcycle.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in this life is ever easy, or at least not for me. I started out in my 20’s working as a cosmetologist, so that I could take care of my oldest son. Being a single mom in those days wasn’t easy, probably never is. I also took on whatever jobs I could that held a flexible enough schedule so that I was able to take off on the road to do music. Along the way I found myself working as a make-up artist, Cooperate Retail manager, and pretty much working multiple jobs at once to make it all happen. I had moved around back and forth from Orange County to Oregon a few times. Ending up back in Orange County in 2014, I found my way back to Barbering and music. Soon after the move I met my husband, and we had my youngest son. During my downtime after my youngest was born I found myself getting depressed, which wasn’t my normal. But I feel like that was caused by my life slowing down so much all at once. I was attempting to go from working and doing music full time, to a stay-at-home mom, that just wasn’t my cup of tea. I love to stay busy, and I’m the type that always searches for fulfillment in my life. I decided to take a Yoga training course and that was not only a game changer, but a life saver. The yoga pulled me from my funk and got me motivated. Soon I was teaching and back to doing music.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I feel like my yoga studio is different from others because we teach a wide variety of classes. I am a trained Buti yoga instructor and that’s a high-intensity fun fitness practice that fuses power yoga, tribal dance, and plyometrics for a full body workout that builds strength, boosts cardio, and enhances flexibility, all while focusing on body positivity, self-empowerment, and unlocking feminine energy through the signature spiral structure technique. We keep the Studio fun with lots of other offerings as well, like sound baths, workshops, and events.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel like life is all about timing and connections, those two things I think create a certain “luck” I guess you could say. I love connecting with people and I think the connections I have made with music and yoga have allowed me to have opportunities I might not have had otherwise.
