Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Kim.
Hi Sandy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t grow up with someone teaching me about makeup or skincare.
So when I got to my 20s, like so many others, YouTube became my teacher. I bought all the viral products everyone was recommending, thinking they would give me the same results.
But my makeup looked patchy. My skin felt dry. And honestly… I couldn’t understand why I didn’t look like the influencers I was watching.
Still, I kept buying whatever was being recommended.
Then, in my 30s, I started slowing down and actually learning about my skin. I discovered K-beauty, and I fell in love.
I learned that I have dry skin. That not every product is going to work for me. That barrier repair and hydration matter. And that I don’t necessarily need a $60 serum when a $10 one can work just as well—or sometimes even better.
But the biggest thing I learned?
I needed to love my skin.
That’s why I started sharing on TikTok and Instagram. Not because I have perfect skin or have all the answers, but because I wanted to create the kind of content I wish I had found when I was younger.
For anyone who has ever wondered, “Why doesn’t this look on me the way it does on them?” — you’re not alone.
Now I’m in my 40s, embracing every fine line, every change, and every version of my skin.
I’ve learned I don’t need a 10-step routine.
Sometimes it’s just SPF and out the door. ☀️
And honestly? That’s enough.
Beauty has no age. 🤍
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
One of my biggest struggles has been learning to stop comparing myself to what I see online. For years, I thought if a product looked amazing on someone else, it should look the same on me. When it didn’t, I blamed my skin instead of realizing that our skin, texture, age, and needs are all different.
I’ve also struggled with confidence, especially as I’ve gotten older. Social media can make you feel like you need to look a certain way to be beautiful or worthy of being seen. Embracing fine lines, changing skin, and getting older has been a journey for me.
And then there’s the challenge of creating content consistently while figuring out what actually feels authentic to me. I didn’t start out as a beauty expert. I was simply someone trying to understand my own skin.
But those struggles are actually why I continue to create.
I want other women to know they don’t have to have perfect skin, know everything about beauty, or spend hundreds of dollars on products to feel beautiful.
I’m still learning. My skin is still changing. And I’m still figuring it out—but now I’m doing it with a lot more confidence, self-acceptance, and a lot less comparison. 🤍
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in content creation across TikTok and Instagram, with skincare being the heart of my content. I’m especially passionate about embracing natural beauty and reminding people that our skin doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
What I’m most proud of, though, is simply putting myself out there. Creating content can be intimidating, especially as you get older, and I’ve had to learn not to measure my success by the number of followers, views, or likes I receive.
For me, success is knowing that I shared my story honestly and authentically. If something I share helps even one person feel more confident in their skin, discover a product that works for them, or simply feel less alone in their own beauty journey, then I consider that a win.
I hope my content continues to remind people that beauty has no age, skincare has no one-size-fits-all approach, and most importantly, you don’t have to change who you are to feel beautiful.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
One piece of advice I would give anyone wanting to start creating content is the same thing I wish someone had told me: don’t stress about the views or the followers.
It’s so easy to get caught up in numbers or feel like you have to constantly follow what’s trending. But instead, focus on the message you want your content to share and the people you want to connect with.
Trends are temporary. Your voice, your story, and the message behind your content can last a lifetime.
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. You never know who may need to hear exactly what you have to say. If your content makes a difference to even one person, that is something worth being proud of.
