Rising Stars: Meet Sandy Ellis of Monrovia, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Ellis

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a minority business owner. Mom of three kids, 10-year girl and 6-year-old twins. Married to an incredible life partner Corey for almost 10 years.

Inspiration struck me during the challenges of the Covid era, Being home with 3 little ones trying to navigate a corporate sales role was not easy. Dealing with a very unsupportive leader in my corporate role that saw a working mom as weakness is what lead me to get out of corporate America and invest in something I am truly passionate about: pet care. Thus, Fetch! Pet Care Monrovia West Covina came to fruition. As a devoted pet parent myself, I deeply understand the significance of reliable and compassionate pet care. My conviction in our mission is fueled by the belief that we boast the finest team of pet professionals. Their unwavering love and dedication to their craft drive me to continuously seek avenues for enhancement, ensuring that we not only provide exceptional pet care but also embody our genuine commitment to pet wellness.
At the core of our philosophy lies the profound understanding that the wellness of our clients’ pets is paramount. This conviction propels us to innovate, striving to cultivate bonds with our furry companions that transcend the ordinary. Every interaction, whether it’s a simple walk or a comprehensive wellness service, is infused with the unique connection we forge with each pet. Our relentless pursuit of excellence extends to the services we offer, all designed to contribute to the overall well-being of our beloved pets. Each initiative we undertake is a testament to our dedication to enhancing the lives of the animals we care for, ensuring they thrive in body, mind, and spirit.

Fetch Pet Care Monrovia – West Covina, has seen over 30% growth year over year. That is contributed to the retention of our incredible team of Pet Professionals and developing strong partnerships with the community. Community plays an integral role in both my personal life and how I operate my business. As a parent raising three young children, I understand firsthand the importance of being part of a vibrant, supportive community. It enriches our lives in countless ways and provides a solid
foundation for growth and well-being. In business, I hold the same belief in the power of community. I genuinely believe that when one of us succeeds, we all have the potential to thrive. While some may view this perspective as idealistic, for me, it’s a reflection of my core values and character. Winning isn’t just about individual achievement; it’s about uplifting others along the way. That’s why I’ve made it a priority to foster partnerships that are mutually beneficial for all involved. Whether it’s establishing ourselves as the preferred vendor for residential communities like Greystone luxury properties, actively supporting fellow businesses as an executive officer within the local chamber of commerce, or collaborating with pet stores to promote pet wellness, I’m committed to collective growth and fulfillment of our shared missions. Together, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone.

Although, retention of great employees and maintaining strong community partnerships is a high priority. We can’t go without the foundation of it all: Safety. Safety is why we’ve invested in having a dedicated dog trainer on staff. Serving as our Safety Training Manager, her primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being of both our team members and clients. From
onboarding new employees to conducting quarterly safety trainings and assessments, she plays a crucial role in maintaining a culture of safety and vigilance. In addition to her core duties, she is also called upon by our staff for shadow assessments, especially when dealing with challenging clients such as those who pull or exhibit reactive behavior during walks. By consistently evaluating our procedures and ensuring that our team remains deeply connected to the needs of each pet client, she reinforces our commitment to safety and excellence in service. Thus, has led to zero claims or incidents.

In 2024, my primary objectives are twofold: to double our revenue and maintain our steadfast reputation within the community. Over the past year, we’ve achieved significant milestones, including the promotion of over half of our staff to leadership
roles. At present, our leadership team comprises entirely of four remarkable women who bring invaluable expertise and dedication to the table. Moving forward, my aim is to further nurture and empower our employees, cultivating a culture of growth and development. By investing in our team, we aim to foster the emergence of future leaders, potentially
even the next CEO or owner of a Fetch location. This commitment to internal advancement not only strengthens our organization but also contributes to the broader professional landscape, empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

When I am not leading my business. You can find me hiking, surfing, and navigating the balance of a working mom!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth but I tend to see every struggle or challenge as an opportunity. I think the biggest struggle initially was staffing. Finding the right individuals to develop a strong empowering work culture. Once we found a couple of those gems it definitely got easier. The ongoing struggle is always finding creative ways to expand our brand and keeping up with always evolving digital and social marketing.
