Rising Stars: Meet Reed Rudy of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reed Rudy.

Hi Reed, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started as an on-screen actor in 1985, working quite a bit in film/tv. Soon thereafter, I began to do a lot of work in the Voiceover industry, working with top VO agents, Abrams Artists and ARL. In the early 2000’s, i started teaching voiceover classes out of some of the premier recording studios in L.A. – Margarita Mix, Pop and Eleven. In 2012, i custom-built my own recording studio. And since then, I have been regularly teaching classes, coaching VO actors, recording auditions and producing demos for clients. I’ve also continued to produce my own VO work from the studio and have regular VO gigs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
On some level, it’s always a struggle as an actor. That is part and parcel of being an actor. The work itself is almost always a wonderful experience. But actors are always looking for the next gig, which creates excitement as well as uncertainty. There are busy times and lean times too. But the work is always extremely satisfying, which I’ve continued to pursue it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I feel very fortunate to work with many brave and creative artists. It’s not easy to bare your soul, even if it’s in an ISO booth. I know that I’ve made a difference in the careers of many of my students and clients. When they have breakthroughs with the work and start to book jobs, I feel part of that success.

What were you like growing up?
As a young boy, I, like many other kids of my age escaped into the world of film and TV. There was always some element of performance and acting around us. My mom was part of the Nine O’Clock Players, which is an exquisite children’s theater group, whose plays are all performed by women. And our family was often at the house of my dad’s best friend, actor Richard Egan, who was a tv/film icon from the 50’s/60’s. Growing up in the Pacific Palisades, the makers of film were always present. Whether it was passing Walter Matthau on his daily walk with his English Sheepdog or visiting the house of legendary voice actor, Mel Blanc or seeing the original Batman, Adam West in our village. Back then, the industry was all around us. It was an exciting time to grow up in Los Angeles.
