Rising Stars: Meet Priscilla Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Lopez.

Hi Priscilla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started in college. (2015) I remember seeing a dj at a basketball tournament and immediately took an interest. I downloaded a dj app on my phone djd my first “gig” on a party bus haha (from my phone). After college, I started taking it more serious, saved up for my first controller and immediately started practicing. (2016) I was getting bookings at hookah lounges, house parties, and a few 18+ clubs. In between gigs I was also working a warehouse job Monday-Friday. (2017)One day at work right before clocking out my manager said something that upset me, that same day I decided I’d never go back and I’m going to believe in myself & dj full time. As much as I loved djn, something still didn’t feel right. I wanted more out of it. (2018) Soon enough, being a local part of the lgbtq+ community, I realized how there wasn’t enough safe spaces for queer women to attend. You can walk down West Hollywood all weekend & run into hundreds of gay men, but what about us? I wanted to create safe space where ALL women can just enjoy themselves & feeling safe around each other. I put myself up for the challenge & I landed a weekly gig at a small bar in Downey and decided I was going to make this for strictly women only.

Every Thursday “Taste Thursdays”. I would dm a minimum of 100 women a day (via instagram) to just come check us out, along with following hundreds a day on our instagram. This night started with 50-100 people, ending with 250-300. (2019) This year was a kick-off for myself and taste, landed a monthly event at one the most historic clubs in our community (LGBTQ). We hosted the biggest women-only pride after party bringing out over 1200+ beautiful people. This event allowed me and my team to keep growing and hosting events at many more places. (2020) pandemic. (2021- 2022) Mine and Taste biggest year to date. We have hosted events in so many different cities/ states around the world. From yacht parties, day parties, nightclubs and even a strip club for strictly women only with both live masculine & feminine dancers. We have worked with the biggest clubs in LA & hope to collab with other groups like us to create bigger & better events for us. Since I started Taste everyone who has attended has either met friend, business partner & a lover for life. We are super excited to see what the future has in store for us. (2023) Taste is going on tour! Stay tuned for future dates coming soon!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggles have been venue owners not believing in me and not giving me an opportunity, making sure to always take care of my mental, and doubting myself. I feel like I’ve gone through a lot since I started this brand, but nothing can ever stop me from finishing my purpose in life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a dj, I host the biggest events in LA for STRICTLY women only. I am the most proud of being able to work for myself and put others in a position to grow with me. My work drive sets me apart from others, I never say I cant, there’s nothing that’s ever too big or too much for me to do. Anything that’s going to better me and my business I’m always willing to take the challenge. I’m super big on “GIRL POWER” there are so many talented women who don’t get noticed enough & we need to change that by supporting each other more.

How do you define success?
I define this as living in your purpose. Doing something that you love doing as a (job) whatever it may be.
