Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Harms.
Hi Olivia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in music and got my start almost as early as anybody could. My first day onstage was at two days old, thanks to my Music Momma. My mom is a very talented singer and songwriter, also a member of the Western Music Association Hall of Fame, and she was signed to Capitol Records when she was pregnant with me. She had booked an event at the Portland Speedway with Ricky Skaggs, Clint Black, and Lorrie Morgan around my due date. She did not want to miss this iconic show, so she went in and talked to her doctor, who luckily was a country music fan, and they agreed to induce labor on June 13 so she could make her show on June 16. So I was born, and literally started traveling with her right off the bat. I grew up in music and around music, and I always remember it being my dream. I saw how my mom brought people joy and happiness through music, comforting them through songs, and the impact that she made on people, and I knew that that’s what I wanted to do with my life as well. My earliest memories are singing “I Want To Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart” onstage, Santa Claus bringing me my very first guitar at six years old, and writing songs about my horses and dogs while I was doing chores every morning. As time went along, I wrote enough songs to record my first album. So in 2011 at the age of 16, I went to Nashville and recorded my debut album “Olivia”. It was a wonderful learning experience and a great stepping stone that I was able to use to start self-promoting, booking, and chasing my musical dream. After high school I went to Oregon State University and got a degree in agriculture business management. I saw firsthand how difficult the music business was, and wanted to have a solid backup plan where I could pursue my second love of agriculture if music didn’t work out. The business portion of my degree help helped me to pursue music even deeper. After college, I moved to Nashville, started writing music, playing music full-time, and preparing for my second album. In 2021 I released my sophomore album “Rhinestone Cowgirl”. From there, I started touring even more, bringing a four piece band with me, and playing over 200 dates a year. That album helped me get inducted into the 2022 class of COWGIRL Magazine’s 30 Under 30, won me the Singer of the Year Award for the Women of the West Gala, and helped me take home Texas Country Music Association’s Country Western Artist of the Year Award. I had three top five hits on Texas Red Dirt Radio, and four top 10 hits on Texas Red Dirt Radio from 2021 to 2024. In 2025, I was hand-selected to be one of 12 country musicians to compete in Taylor Sheridan and Blake Shelton‘s brand-new reality TV music competition show called “The Road”. The basis of the show was going on tour, opening for Keith Urban and his crowd, and competing to win over his fans every night at each new tour stop and venue. The show premiered on CBS and Paramount+ on October 19. It was a wonderful opportunity and a priceless experience that I will value forever. Going into 2026, I’m continuing the momentum from the show and looking forward to an exciting, busy year filled with new music and lots of touring!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anytime you’re chasing a dream, it’s never a smooth road. It’s filled with many twists and turns and struggles along the way. But with every trial you overcome, it makes each victory so much sweeter. There’s no feeling better than looking back and seeing all of your hard work pay off, knowing nobody got you to where you are except for your own determination. I think the biggest hurdle I face with music is finding my fan base and winning them over. Figuring out what venues they go to, what communities they’re part of, and then finding a way to book the shows that gets my music in front of them and wins them over one fan at a time. Not to mention the constant juggling act of booking venues and tours, staying on top of social media, creating new music, managing travel and logistics, and the many other behind-the-scenes tasks that I have to tackle on a daily basis. I truly feel like a one woman show trying to stay on top of everything just so I can go do the one thing I love to do, which is play music for good people.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My music is truly a blend of all the places I’ve lived and all the music that I love so much. It starts out with western roots and cowboy music, blended with some West Coast, Bakersfield Country, paying tribute to Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, mixed with some contemporary Nashville country from my years spent living and writing in Nashville, finished off with a strong presence of Texas honky-tonk and rodeo. You mix all that together and you get Olivia Harms music. I think when folks listen to my music, they hear traditional country story songs with a heavy dose of fiddle and steel guitar. My songs are all authentic and come from real-life stories. I think my fans have a sixth sense and can hear that through the music, and that’s why they can relate so well to it.
What makes you happy?
Sharing stories through music with people makes me happy. There is nothing more rewarding than having someone come up to me at the end of a show sharing that a song I wrote has touched them, moved them, inspired them, or helped them through a rough time. Music has always been such a comfort, therapy, and sometimes even a memory reminder for me, that there is no greater joy for me than to provide that for other people. The world is a hard enough place as it is. I’m just so blessed that I get to make a living shining a light and trying to bring a little happiness to people.
