Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Fiore.
Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Wow, where to begin… I started roller skating as soon as I could walk, began competing at four years old, and went on to win 4 World Championships from 2007-2010. After I finished competing, I turned to coaching and choreographing and had the honor of teaching some of the top competitive skaters in the United States. Then…2020 happened. I had already started to build an online community on Youtube where I created roller skating tutorials for beginner skaters. It was a great contrast to my everyday teaching of top-level athletes in the skating world. But when I could no longer go into the local skating rink due to covid restrictions, I turned to teaching outside and completely online. This changed everything. I started to think…if my competitive skaters were enjoying learning online in their homes and outside at parks, could I do this for everyone who wants to learn all over the world? The answer was yes. So, I built my website and started offering class memberships. Two years later, I consistently teach thousands of people how to skate every week online, offering videos and live online classes to the masses. I can hardly believe this dream has come true and truly look forward to what can come of it in the future! Building a beautiful and supportive online community has been the cherry on top. It’s incredible what we can accomplish when we come together and support one another unconditionally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is the road ever truly smooth? There has always been and will always be bumps, but sometimes your wheels are big enough to roll right over them. Sometimes the bumps are so big your wheels just stop and send you flying.
Transitioning a business to be fully online was a struggle. Technology and other factors are always a bit of a headache, but the biggest headache was negative judgment from family and friends who didn’t understand the concept.
You know when you have an idea so big that you don’t actually want to say it out loud? That feeling oftentimes means you’re onto something really cool. Not all the time, but a lot of the time. When you’re doing anything big, some people will understand and some won’t. That’s okay. As long as you’re doing what is right for you with kindness and good intentions leading the way, it will all work out in the end.
I’m constantly learning. Every day teaches me something new. Some days are a struggle, but I’m here for it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional roller skater, skating coach, and choreographer!
Because I was literally born into roller skating (my parents were both skating coaches), I’ve grown from seeing the positive and negative sides of the industry. I grew up in competitive artistic skating and naturally found my way into the professional performance and coaching side of skating. In recent years with the popularity of skating growing, it’s been my mission to help anyone and everyone who is wanting to learn in a fun and safe way. Skating is a very physical activity and it’s important to develop solid foundations and techniques to prevent injury…all while fully enjoying your time on 8 wheels. Skating has taught me so much and brought so much joy into my life. It’s my goal to share that with as many people as I can.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
The best memories all surround skating. My absolute favorite is driving to the skating rink early in the morning with my Dad, blasting music, and getting ready for the day ahead.
