Today we’d like to introduce you to Nacho De La Riega
Hi Nacho, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in 1982 in Buenos Aires, Argentina .
From an early age my interest in music got me fascinated with analog gear and recording studios.
At the age of 16 I started working as an assistant in a recording studio while attending high school… and that was it. From then on, I spent my whole life next to a pair of speakers.
I started recording albums when I was 20 years old and 5 years later, I opened my first studio.
After a prominent career, some awards and 30th trips to LA ( yes 30 ) I decided to get an artist visa and stay in LA more permanently.
I currently divide my time between my studio in California and Buenos Aires.
I have mixing / mastering facilities in both cities and I find totally exciting always seeking something new.
Music is endless… so my job is never the same. I love that.
I arrived here in 2022 and I feel that this new chapter its only the beginning .
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Art is always a bumpy road, especially in the music industry . But passion and commitment make you forget all about that and keep moving forward.
Moving to a new country after 20 + years of career in my hometown definitely was a challenge, but I don’t regret a single day of it.
I found an AMAZING music scene here. LA is full of artists coming from all over the world to do what they do best, and to take a bet on their life, and that’s really inspiring.
The feeling of community is huge and makes you feel that everything is possible.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a music producer, a mixing and mastering engineer. I work with labels in LA, labels in Buenos Aires and independent artists from all over the world.
I help artists to accomplish their vision. I help them to get from where they are to their final destination.
Depending on their needs, sometimes I receive just an iphone audio note with a rough idea, or sometimes, a full polished song that just needs mastering for distribution.
One of my favourite projects here is working alongside Open Folk LA. Their vision and how they curate music is outstanding and we’ve been making records for a decade now.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
It presented a lot of challenges…Producing music remotely was not easy nor ideal. But music has a way of always bringing people together. And it certainly did.
We learned more ways to collaborate together and the music kept flowing. In a way, it made us all appreciate more that being present is important, and that live music is key as a basic human interaction.
