Rising Stars: Meet Misfit Soto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misfit Soto.

Misfit, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up I was not really into music at an early age. To me everything sounded the same all the music on the radio all the radio stations nothing really stood out. My brother though who is ten years older than me his name is Miguel was a rapper and introduced me to a whole new side of music. He called it underground hip hop and at the age of 15, I dove deep into the underground in LA and found an open mic workshop at Leimert Park on the corner of 43rd and Crenshaw. I met a couple of artists there that would change the way I approached making music and change the way I appreciated music. Years have gone by and I think I really didn’t start getting noticed till about 4 or 5 years ago when us Latinos or Chicanos started making noise and dropping music people loved. And now I’m here today talking to you

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth it’s been full of learning experiences which I don’t take as losses because I’ve gained knowledge from them… I’ve had bad record deals, money’s been stolen from me from record labels. All that. So I would say no it has not been a smooth roll but it has been a learning experience well worth the knowledge I’ve gained thru experience

My name is Misfit Soto. I’m an artist, songwriter, producer, beat composer and audio engineer. What sets me apart from everyone else is that I make all my own music all original sounds and record, mix and master all my own songs.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
