Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael White.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
“I didn’t start out in fashion or boardroom meetings—I started out throwing 212 events in high school. By the time I hit college, it was game on. Years of promoting top-tier nightlife and working with artists across Los Angeles taught me one major thing: culture moves fast, and style dictates the whole room. That’s why launching Ben Franks felt like the natural next evolution—it’s built on that same authentic L.A. energy.” #Mikethepromoter is not just a name but a brand
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
”Smooth? Not even close. If anyone tells you they built a brand or ran the L.A. nightlife scene without taking a few Ls, they’re selling you a fantasy. The glamour is what people see on Instagram—packed venues, flashing lights, fresh drops—but the reality is built on 16-hour days, trial and error, and thick skin.
In promotion, you’re dealing with shifting venues, unpredictable crowds, and egos 24/7; one bad night can wipe out weeks of planning. Transitioning into fashion with Ben Franks was a whole different beast. Learning the manufacturing side, dialing in the embroidery, dealing with supply chain headaches, and making sure the quality matches the vision—it took a lot of expensive mistakes and sleepless nights to get it right. But honestly? Every setback taught me a masterclass in business. In this city, you either fold under the pressure or you use it to sharpen your edge. We sharpened the edge
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
”At my core, I’m a culture curator. My main focus right now is building Ben Franks, my independent streetwear and headwear line, alongside keeping my foot firmly on the gas in Los Angeles nightlife and event promotion. If you see my name attached to something, whether it’s a packed Hollywood Thursday night or a clean, premium snapback drop, you know it’s about authenticity and energy. I specialize in taking raw street culture and turning it into tangible experiences—curating spaces where the city’s artists, creators, and tastemakers can connect, while dropping headwear that speaks for itself.”
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
”Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see the line between physical products and digital/live experiences completely dissolving. People are craving real connection more than ever—especially after years of algorithmic scrolling. In the nightlife and events world, the shift is moving away from just ‘packing a club’ toward immersive, curated lifestyle experiences where the community is part of the brand. People want to step inside the culture, not just look at it.
On the streetwear and headwear side, independence is going to rule. The era of massive, gatekept corporate fashion houses dictating what’s cool is fading. Consumers—especially in cities like L.A.—want authenticity, direct-to-consumer connection, and small-batch exclusivity. They want to know the person behind the brand, the story of how a hat was designed, and the hustle that built it. Over the next decade, the creators who win will be the ones who can seamlessly blend physical items like premium snapbacks with real-world lifestyle curation, building an entire ecosystem around their name rather than just selling a single product.”
