Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Forte.
Lily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been singing since I was 8 years old. I started out with Hillary Duff covers in my living room and eventually found my way into jazz, blues and classic rock. I then started singing at any venue that would allow an 8 year old perform in the South Florida area.
I was in cover bands as a teenager, and then discovered another creative avenue for me, songwriting. When I realized I could do both – singing and writing music of my own, I found the sweet spot.
I moved from Florida to LA in 2021. I had always dreamed of Hollywood, but never visited until I decided to move here. After years of learning, failing, and victories in between, I released my debut album: Don’t Gild The Lily (2026).
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course I’ve encountered many obstacles along the way. I think LA can be very isolating if you don’t make the effort to put yourself out there. For a while I found myself having a hard time here, but as soon as I decided to love LA for what it was, I found the magic again. To put it simply, I dress up and I show up … that’s how I get out of a rut.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer-songwriter with a mission to keep rock n roll alive. I write music inspired by my life, love, and loss but I always channel the greats that came before me. 1960’s and 1970’s music has touched me more than I can explain, I aim to keep that energy alive through my work. I am most proud of my album, Don’t Gild The Lily. I made this album in a garage with my friends and collaborators, comprised of mostly live instrumentation. It was important for me to have the music on this record tell a story, even without the lyrics present.
When it comes to what sets me apart from others, I’ve always struggled with this question. Not because I don’t know what makes my music different, I do. But because I find comfort in the things we all feel, say, or do as people. I think we are all more alike than we realize.
Yes, my songwriting stems from moments specific to me, but there is a universal feeling under all of it.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am currently working on new music!
