Rising Stars: Meet Lilac Cooper of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilac Cooper.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents recognized my passion for singing when I was very young and encouraged me to pursue it. I started going to auditions and performing at an early age, so being on stage has always felt like a natural part of who I am.
As I grew older, I developed a strong foundation in jazz, which shaped the way I approach music and taught me to really understand my voice. Over the years, I explored different genres, performed on some incredible stages, and worked on major television productions, but songwriting was where I truly found my own voice.
I’ve always been drawn to the emotional depth of soul and R&B, combined with the storytelling and melodies of pop. My music is deeply personal, and I love turning my own experiences and emotions into songs that other people can see themselves in.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! I think one of the biggest challenges has been finding my own voice and learning to trust it. I started performing at such a young age that I grew up in an environment where you’re constantly being evaluated, and it’s easy to get caught up in other people’s expectations of who you should be as an artist.
The music industry can also be unpredictable. There have been moments of rejection, self doubt, and times when I’ve questioned whether I was on the right path. Finding the balance between staying true to myself and navigating an industry that’s constantly changing hasn’t always been easy.
But I think those experiences have made me a better songwriter. I’ve learned to embrace vulnerability and turn some of my most difficult emotions into music

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and performer specializing in jazz, soul, and pop. My musical roots are deeply connected to jazz, with influences ranging from Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan to Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Sade, and Adele. My music brings together soulful vocals, jazz influences, and personal storytelling, and I’m especially passionate about creating an emotional connection with my audience through live performance.
Right now, I’m working on a new project exploring love, heartbreak, empowerment, and self discovery. I’m experimenting with new sounds and collaborating with talented producers to create music that reflects who I am today, both as an artist and as a woman.
What I’m most proud of is the artistic identity I’ve developed over the years and the courage to keep evolving while staying true to myself. My jazz background has shaped my vocal versatility, musical freedom, and the way I express emotions through music.
I truly believe that everyone has their own unique spark, and that’s what makes the world so beautiful. For me, what sets an artist apart isn’t about being better than anyone else, but about embracing their individuality. I hope my music encourages people to connect with their emotions and celebrate what makes them unique.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to collaborating with musicians, songwriters, producers, and other creatives. I love connecting with people who bring their own unique perspective to the creative process.
The best way to connect with me is through my Instagram or email. You can support me by listening to my music, sharing it, coming to my shows, and following along with my journey. Every bit of support means so much to me!
