Today we’d like to introduce you to Le Dib.
Hi Le, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Leandro Dib Gabriel, professionally known as Le Dib, is a Brazilian producer, songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist whose career has moved through several distinct chapters—from guitarist in a Los Angeles rock band, to electronic artist with tens of millions of streams, and ultimately back to Los Angeles as a producer and songwriter.
Born in São Paulo, Le Dib started his professional music career young and eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Los Angeles College of Music. It was there that he became part of Bonavox, an international pop/rock band formed by LACM students. Le Dib served as lead guitarist, backing vocalist, producer and engineer on the band’s early material.
The band’s breakthrough came remarkably quickly. In 2014, Bonavox’s “Fallen Angels” was selected as one of three winners of the Recording Academy’s GRAMMY Amplifier Center Stage competition from more than 5,000 submissions. The Recording Academy subsequently featured Bonavox at its SXSW showcase at the Gibson Showroom in Austin alongside Aloe Blacc and Allen Stone.
That moment opened another door: Bonavox went on to support Allen Stone on several West Coast dates, including San Diego, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The band also appeared at the 2015 Billboard Power 100 event in Beverly Hills.
After the Bonavox chapter, Le Dib’s career took a significant stylistic turn toward electronic music. Rather than abandoning his background as a musician, he began incorporating guitars, songwriting and his own vocals into electronic production. That combination became part of his identity as a solo artist.
One of the first major records from that period was “Monday” with Vintage Culture and Felguk, released through Spinnin’ Deep in 2017. Le Dib contributed as an artist and writer, with contemporary coverage also crediting him with the song’s vocals and guitars. The track has accumulated roughly 20 million Spotify streams on the currently indexed Spotify recording.
Then came “Keep On Lovin'” with Cat Dealers in 2018. The collaboration grew out of Le Dib’s relationship with Felguk: Cat Dealers heard his demo, invited him to Rio, and the record was completed together in their studio. DJ Mag subsequently highlighted Le Dib’s vocals on the track. Today, the primary Spotify recording shows more than 41 million streams.
At the same time, Le Dib began expanding beyond being the artist on the front of the record and further into production for other artists. A notable example was Brazilian rock/pop icon Paulo Ricardo. Globo documented Ricardo describing how he was introduced to Le Dib to produce “Ela Chegou,” with Le Dib helping transform the original guitar-and-vocal composition into the finished record. Contemporary coverage reported that further reinterpretations of Ricardo’s catalog were also planned.
More recently, after moving back to Los Angeles about 2 years ago, Le Dib has continued building his presence as a producer and songwriter in Los Angeles. He produced and co-wrote Diana Thale’s “Your City,” which is approaching 400,000 streams on Spotify as Diana gains significant momentum across social media. He has also been working alongside Grammy-winning producer Jaycen Joshua and engineer/producer Mike Seaberg with the Full Circle Boys, contributing to their recently released album as a producer and songwriter on “Polite” and “Promises,” alongside the songwriter/producer Jack Newsome. This latest work marks the next chapter of Le Dib’s career, focusing on developing artists and creating contemporary pop records alongside some of the industry’s most accomplished producers, engineers, and songwriters.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NEVER! A career in music is most likely never smooth. Making money is really hard specially when you re pursuing the artist path. Being just a great musician is not enough and now with social media you have to develop a lot of other skills to stay relevant. Something I kind of regret was not choosing ONE path in the music industry. I feel like I can do almost everything. I started as a guitarist, started to write songs, started producing my own songs, had a pop/rock band, moved to EDM, became a singer with my solo project, people wanted me to became a DJ so I studied that, started focusing more on music production, opened my own label not just producing but A&Ring and managing other artists, then finally moved back to LA to focus exclusively on music production. I love doing everything but I feel like if I had chosen music production since the beginning I could have been an even better producer today. But again, who knows?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel like Im mostly known for my EDM songs/artist career, although still to this day there’s people who think Im a DJ. Im a very pop/mainstream guy so I always loved the songs that “play on the radio”. Nowadays I’m focusing on writing and producing for/with other artists. I have 3 kids now and I’m very much happy just being behind the scenes. Don’t really intent to travel that much or go on tour anymore. As a music producer I feel like my best asset is being able to navigate in between genres pretty easily. Since I started as a guitar player and moved to EDM at some point I can bounce around organic and electronic and anything in between.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I feel like networking is one of the most important things in any career. Finding people who believes in you but also people who like you as a person. My dad’s always been really good at networking and I feel like I got this from him. Being an easy going person, having a good relationship with everyone is key. You can get the gig not for being the better musician but for being the better human.
