Rising Stars: Meet Kaya Chyla of Canoga Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaya Chyla.

Hi Kaya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve never been particularly good at sticking to just one thing, which probably explains why my life has taken a few interesting turns.

I spent much of my childhood growing up overseas before eventually making my way to Los Angeles about 11 years ago. I can adapt to anywhere at this point.

My journey started in all kinds of work. Food, accounting, supplements, and fitness. I have a degree in Sports and Health Sciences and spent years working in personal training and wellness before somehow finding myself in the beauty industry, where I built PrettyLashBae, my lash and brow business in LA.

Somewhere along the way, I also became a pole dancer, developed a borderline unreasonable commitment to the gym, committed myself to becoming a gym influencer girl that’s sponsored, and discovered that I have a lot of opinions about life that nobody necessarily asked for.

Which brings me to my latest adventure: writing.

I recently launched The It Girl Guide to a Well-Lived Life, a Substack dedicated to looking good, feeling good, and figuring out the rest. Think beauty, fitness, relationships, and all the little absurdities of being a woman who’s trying to have it together.

These days, I’m balancing entrepreneurship, fitness, dance, and building a lifestyle brand that brings all my interests together.

I’ve realized that I don’t need to choose just one thing to be passionate about. And if there’s a common thread through everything I do, it’s probably that I’m endlessly fascinated by what makes us feel good and occasionally lose our minds.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has anyone who’s ever started a business actually had a smooth road? Because I’d love to meet them and ask a few questions.

Entrepreneurship has been one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences of my life. One minute you’re celebrating a great month, and the next you’re wondering why everything suddenly costs twice as much and your to-do list somehow got longer.

I’ve had my fair share of setbacks, financial stress, and moments where I’ve questioned what I was doing. Running a business teaches you very quickly that being good at your craft and being good at running a business are two entirely different skill sets.

But one of my biggest challenges has actually been learning to give myself permission to evolve. When you’ve spent years building something, it’s easy to feel like you have to stay in that lane forever.

I’ve had to learn that changing direction doesn’t mean abandoning what you’ve built. Sometimes it just means making room for the next version of yourself.

I’m still figuring things out, but I’ve gotten much better at trusting that I can handle whatever comes next.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think the common thread in everything I do is creativity, just expressed in very different ways.

In beauty, I love the artistry of enhancing someone’s natural features. With dance, it’s about movement, expression, and pushing the limits of what my body can do. And with writing, I’ve discovered that I really enjoy turning everyday experiences into something people can laugh about, relate to, or maybe even see differently.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve never let myself become too comfortable being just one thing. I’ve built a business I’m proud of, but I’ve also continued exploring interests that have absolutely nothing to do with my day job.

I think what sets me apart is the contrast between my interests and my personality. I love aesthetics, discipline, and all things self-improvement, but I also think life is far too ridiculous to take yourself that seriously.

I want the things I create to inspire people in some way, whether that’s helping someone feel beautiful, encouraging them to try something new, or simply making them laugh because they’ve had the exact same ridiculous thought.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been fortunate to cross paths with some incredibly generous women throughout my career. One who particularly stands out is a beauty professional named Darla, who took the time to teach me several of the services I eventually added to my business, completely free of charge. Looking back, it was such a genuine example of women supporting women. No competition, no ulterior motive, just someone willing to share what she knew to help another woman succeed. I think we need more of that.

Beyond that, I’ve always admired women who are confident enough to put themselves out there, pursue what they want, and not spend their lives worrying about what everyone else thinks.

There’s something incredibly inspiring about a woman who knows who she is and isn’t constantly looking around the room for permission to be herself.

I’m still working on mastering that last part, but I have some excellent examples to learn from.
