Today we’d like to introduce you to Katisha Sargeant.
Hi Katisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I always enjoyed giving back to my community. My very first job was a summer internship where I got to work with Habitat for Humanity at 16. I think that not only does giving back warm my heart, it also helps me as an artist. Touching others, whether it be through my art or acts of service, has always been my focus.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh life is constantly up and down. Being so involved in the community is part of what helps the bumpy parts in the road feel less bumpy. I can say that following this road as an actress has given me plenty of moments for pause. I’ve doubted myself, I’ve doubted my abilities, I’ve even doubted my support system. Ultimately, something like volunteering with Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant, or Mrs. Santa Claus and the Kimberly Moore Foundation helps me keep myself grounded in the turbulent times. It reminds me of things bigger than myself and reasons why I continue to strive for my goals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I moved to LA from Farmville, VA in order to pursue my acting career. Since moving, I’ve completed my Master’s of Fine Arts in Acting for Film, shot several short films, got my first Network credits, written and directed a short film, produced and starred in a short film, joined the Screen Actor’s Guild, and so much more. I am so proud that I can serve as an example to others who want to do the same.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think the most important lesson that I have learned is that I need to stay grounded. The older I get, the more important it is for me to stay connected to that 12 years old girl that stepped onto a stage to act for the first time. Remembering the reasons why I work so hard is extremely important to me. Every time that I get to positively impact the life of another human, I am deeply grateful.
