Rising Stars: Meet Katia Boone of South Bay, Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katia Boone.

Hi Katia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my career in women’s health nursing, first working in postpartum and supporting families after having a baby. I then moved into fertility care, where I worked with patients going through fertility treatments.

Through both experiences, I really saw how much people need support outside of their medical care. Fertility treatment can be such an emotional and overwhelming process, and the postpartum period comes with its own challenges and adjustments. I realized there was a gap in support during both of these seasons, and I wanted to find a way to help.

That’s what led me to start Hope to Haven. I wanted to combine my background in nursing with my passion for supporting people through these major life transitions. I now offer fertility coaching and postpartum doula support, helping people feel more supported and less alone throughout their journey.

I’m originally from Santa Barbara and now live in the South Bay, where I’m continuing to grow Hope to Haven. I’m really passionate about making sure people have someone they can turn to for support, guidance, and reassurance, whether they’re navigating fertility treatment or adjusting to life with a new baby.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the challenges of this work is that it can be really heavy emotionally. You’re supporting people through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, whether that’s navigating fertility struggles or adjusting to life after having a baby. There can be so much uncertainty and emotion involved, and sometimes people are going through a lot more than what you see on the surface.

I think that’s also what makes this work so meaningful to me. I know how important it is to feel supported during these times, and I want to be someone who can provide that support. On the business side, building something from the ground up and getting the word out has definitely been a learning curve, too. But I really believe in what I’m doing and the need for this kind of support, which is what keeps me going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Through Hope to Haven, I offer fertility coaching, with a focus on supporting people going through IVF, as well as postpartum doula support.

Before starting Hope to Haven, I spent years working in both fertility care and postpartum. I got to be part of such personal and important moments in people’s lives, and I saw how much goes into growing a family. Especially with fertility challenges, there can be so much that goes into getting to that point, emotionally and physically. Then, once the baby arrives, there’s this whole new chapter that comes with its own challenges, and I felt like that part of the journey didn’t always get the attention and support it deserves.

That’s really what inspired me to start Hope to Haven. I wanted to be able to support people beyond the medical side of things and be there for all the moments in between. With fertility, that might mean helping someone feel a little less overwhelmed and more supported through treatment. With postpartum, I want families to feel cared for, have someone they can turn to with questions, and feel like they don’t have to figure everything out on their own.

Alongside my one-on-one support, I’ve also started hosting free pregnancy and infertility events in the community. I wanted to create opportunities for people to connect with others who might be going through similar experiences, meet local providers, and feel like they have a community around them. I know these seasons can sometimes feel isolating, and I love the idea of creating spaces where people can come as they are, feel supported, and know they’re not alone.

I think what makes my work a little different is that I’ve experienced both sides through my nursing career. I understand what the fertility clinic experience can look like, and I’ve also worked with families in those early days after birth. I bring that experience into my work as a coach and doula, offering support, education, and care alongside the medical providers families already trust.

At the end of the day, I just want people to know they don’t have to go through these experiences alone. Growing a family can be such a beautiful thing, but I know it doesn’t always come easily, and there can be so much emotion and uncertainty along the way. I want Hope to Haven to be a place where people feel truly cared for, where they feel heard and supported, and where they know they have someone in their corner through all the ups and downs.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I think one of the biggest things I’m learning is to be patient with yourself and with the process. When you start something of your own, you have so many ideas and so much excitement, and you want things to happen right away. But building a business takes time, and you have to be willing to put yourself out there, try new things, and figure things out as you go.

I also think it’s important to really believe in what you’re doing, especially on the days when things feel slow or uncertain. Starting Hope to Haven has pushed me outside of my comfort zone in a lot of ways, but it’s also reminded me why I wanted to do this in the first place.

My advice would be to not wait until everything feels perfect before you start. You’re going to learn so much along the way, and sometimes you just have to take that first step and trust yourself enough to keep going.
