Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Salgado.
Hi Joshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Latin dance music (Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia etc.) has always been around me growing up, at home and at family gatherings. My older brother, Derek, was a musician and always shared his excitement for music with me – he solidified my passion for music. Derek tragically passed away when he was only 22 years old, which made me realize life is too short to not focus on my passion.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I have been living in the greater Los Angeles area for 4 years now. I graduated from CalArts with a BFA in Music Technology and have experience producing, engineering, and working with artists at Paramount Recording Studios and Melrose Sound Studios. I produce house and techno and have secured releases on labels Touched Music, Solymar Records, California House Patrol, Deepbeat Collective, and Anadigma Records. I also frequently DJ house and techno under the alias “Salgado” in clubs including Jungle Hollywood, The Room Hollywood, Fiona’s Los Angeles, and Delicious Pizza to name a few. Lastly, I’m a Co-Founder and Resident DJ of the Los Angeles-based DJ collective Halostation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a struggle being away from my family most importantly. I’ve also had to make personal sacrifices with my relationships, financially, and at times mentally and physically. It’s tough to live in Los Angeles as an artist, but I’m definitely looking forward to working in other music hubs of the world in the near future. Overall, I realize the importance of maintaining a healthy and sustainable lifestyle to make a career out of this.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Check out my latest release “Underground” by Salgado available now on all streaming platforms! This Classic House inspired track features driving 909 drums, an infectious bass line, all contrasted by expansive house stabs. “Underground” is featured on various artists compilation “CHP Vol. 2”, my first release on Los Angeles based label California House Patrol founded founded by label head Urbanite.
Also check out my last release “Miami” by Salgado and Vantin available now on all streaming platforms! “Miami” was produced on a flight from Los Angeles to Miami Music Week 2025. Inspired by our Latin American roots, the drum heavy Latin House track features high-energy builds. While in Miami, we gave this track to DJs Henri, Beltran and Louie Vega. This is the first of many releases on label Solymar Records founded by Salgado and Vantin.
What matters most to you?
Releasing tracks, performing as much as possible, and building community through music. These are the most fulfilling parts of my practice as an artist, which I also feel will take me the furthest in my career.
