Rising Stars: Meet Jose Rodriguez of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Rodriguez.

Hi Jose, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My career has been built on a passion for leadership, hospitality, and creating exceptional customer experiences. What started in restaurant management eventually grew into a luxury transportation business serving high-profile clients, corporate teams, artists, and travelers throughout Los Angeles and beyond.

Career journey

From 2013 to 2018, I built my foundation in the fast-paced restaurant industry. I began as a team lead manager and worked my way up to General Manager, overseeing some of the busiest locations in Los Angeles—including Koreatown, Downtown LA, Westwood, and the USC area. My experience included working with brands such as Chipotle and Bibibop, a Korean fusion restaurant.

Managing high-volume locations taught me how to lead under pressure, solve problems quickly, and keep service standards high even during the busiest shifts. Most importantly, I learned that strong businesses are built through people. I focused on developing top-performing teams and creating a welcoming, personalized experience for loyal customers. Those lessons in leadership, consistency, and relationship-building became the foundation for everything I would do next.

During my daily drives to work, I began noticing more and more vehicles with Uber decals. Curious about the growing ride-share industry, I started researching the platform and talking with drivers. I decided to drive part-time, and what began as a side opportunity quickly became something I genuinely enjoyed. I liked being behind the wheel, navigating Los Angeles, meeting new people, and helping passengers get where they needed to go.

My interest in transportation grew further when I noticed black SUVs operating at LAX. I learned about the Transportation Charter Party (TCP) permit and began researching what it would take to operate a professional luxury transportation company. The process was demanding—requiring patience, research, compliance, insurance, investment, and a willingness to learn an entirely new business—but I was determined to make the transition.

Building the business

As the business began to grow, I expanded from driving on my own to building a dependable team. When demand increased, I brought on my third driver—my cousin—because I wanted someone I could trust to represent the company with the same professionalism and care I expected from myself.

Investing in an Escalade became an important step in taking the business to the next level. It allowed us to serve a higher-end client base and provide transportation for artists, production teams, and entertainment-industry professionals. Our work has included transportation connected to major music projects such as *Donda 2*, *Heroes & Villains*, and *We Don’t Trust You*, along with large-scale events including Coachella and Rolling Loud.

Since then, the company has continued to grow through additional luxury vehicles, trusted affiliates, and a stronger operational team. Every expansion has been intentional: not just adding capacity, but protecting the quality, safety, reliability, and professionalism that clients expect from a premium transportation service.

Where I am today

Today, I run a luxury transportation business built on the same hospitality principles that guided me in restaurant management: personalized service, strong team leadership, attention to detail, and consistency.

One of the things that separates our company is how carefully we match drivers with clients. Every client has different preferences, expectations, and personalities. I take the time to assign the right chauffeur to each trip whenever possible, creating an experience that feels comfortable, tailored, and professional—not simply transactional.

That personalized approach has helped us build repeat business and long-term client relationships. My path has not been a straight line, but every step—from managing restaurants, to driving rideshare, to learning the TCP process, to building a luxury fleet—has prepared me to lead the business I operate today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has been an important part of the learning process. Building a luxury transportation company has required more than providing great rides—it has meant learning how to protect the business financially, manage demanding schedules, maintain a premium fleet, and deliver consistently high service even when unexpected issues arise.

One of the early challenges was dealing with fraudulent payments and chargebacks. There were times when we accepted a reservation, completed the service, and only afterward discovered that the payment had been disputed or was fraudulent. Experiences like that were frustrating because the company had already invested the time, fuel, driver labor, and vehicle use into the trip. It taught me the importance of stronger payment verification, clear booking policies, and protecting the business before a ride is confirmed.

Scheduling was another major lesson. As the company was growing, there were times when we overbooked or accepted trips too close together. In luxury transportation, timing is everything, and even a small delay can affect a client’s experience. Late-night rides followed by early-morning pickups also created demanding schedules, especially in the early stages when I was personally handling many parts of the operation. There were moments of exhaustion and mistakes, but they pushed me to improve planning, build better systems, and add reliable support.

As a newer company, we often felt that every trip was being closely evaluated. Clients in the luxury transportation market expect punctuality, clean and well-maintained vehicles, professional chauffeurs, clear communication, and a seamless experience. We had to prove ourselves on every booking while also managing the responsibility and liability that comes with transporting people safely.

Wanting to please every client can be a strength, but it can also be challenging when it leads a growing company to stretch too far. I learned that protecting service quality sometimes means setting boundaries, confirming availability carefully, and saying no to a booking if accepting it could affect another client’s experience.

Like many service businesses, demand is not always consistent. There are busy periods with major events, travel, production work, and high client demand, but there are also slow seasons when reservations decrease. During those periods, the business still has to cover vehicle payments, commercial insurance, maintenance, registration, permits, driver-related costs, and other operating expenses.

That financial pressure is one of the realities of building a fleet-based business. It requires careful budgeting, staying proactive with marketing and client outreach, maintaining relationships with repeat customers, and planning ahead so the company can stay stable even when bookings are temporarily slower.

Those obstacles have made me more resilient, organized, and intentional as a business owner. They taught me to:

– Strengthen payment and reservation procedures to reduce fraud and chargeback risk.
– Improve scheduling systems so vehicles and drivers are never stretched too thin.
– Prioritize rest, dependable staffing, and communication during demanding periods.
– Maintain high standards without overpromising.
– Plan financially for slow seasons and ongoing fleet expenses.
– Focus on long-term client relationships instead of only chasing the next booking.

The road has included mistakes, long nights, financial pressure, and difficult lessons, but those experiences helped transform the business into a more professional, reliable, and sustainable operation.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I am most proud of is building this company from the ground up. I transitioned from managing high-volume restaurants to learning the transportation industry, navigating the TCP process, investing in vehicles, developing a chauffeur team, and earning the trust of clients in a highly competitive Los Angeles market.
I am especially proud that our growth has come through repeat clients, referrals, and long-term relationships. That trust means clients are comfortable relying on us with their time, safety, comfort, privacy, and important events.

I am also proud to be able to give back to the transportation community. Over the years, I have mentored new drivers and helped newer limousine-business owners learn from the experiences, mistakes, and systems I developed while building my own company. I share guidance on the procedures that matter, including professional standards, client communication, scheduling, operations, and building a dependable reputation.

Being able to help make the process easier for someone who is just starting out is meaningful to me. It has also allowed me to build genuine respect within the chauffeur and limousine community. I believe that by sharing knowledge and encouraging professionalism, we can help strengthen the industry as a whole.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is providing for my family, continuing to grow as a business owner, and building a company that people can genuinely trust. I have always believed that success is not only about making money or adding more vehicles it is about creating something stable, respected, and meaningful for the people around you.

In my business, trust matters most. Clients are trusting us with their time, their safety, their privacy, and often some of their most important moments whether they are traveling for work, going to the airport, attending a major event, managing a production schedule, or celebrating with family and friends. I take that responsibility seriously, which is why I focus so much on professionalism, communication, clean and dependable vehicles, and making sure every client feels taken care of.

I also care deeply about the people who work with me. From chauffeurs and affiliates to new drivers and newer limousine business owners I have had the opportunity to mentor, I want to help create opportunities and share what I have learned. I know how difficult it can be to start from the ground up, so being able to guide someone else and help them avoid some of the mistakes I made is something I value.

Ultimately, what matters most is leaving behind a reputation for doing things the right way: working hard, treating people with respect, keeping promises, and delivering quality even when nobody is watching. That is the type of business I want to continue building and the example I want to set for my family and community.
