Rising Stars: Meet JaShawn Taylor of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to JaShawn Taylor.

Hi JaShawn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My Name is JaShawn Taylor, also known as Jaayy or Jay da Great. I am an upcoming music artist out of South Central LA. I’ve been making music for about a little over 10 years now, specifically Hip Hop/Rap and am now implementing more R&B. I also have a clothing brand called Rien Nest Facile @riennest.facile (Nothing Comes Easy in French, formerly known as Authentik Religion LA). I run this brand with my business partner who is the CEO, but my role is mainly leading with creative direction, making sure we are being as original as possible when it comes down to photoshoots, reels, and even on the design aspect. Lastly, I also work with my team The County Creative Era @thecountyce. We’re originally based out of Compton, CA but we curate different events all throughout LA, mainly leading with either our “Home Team” show where we bring out local artists from all parts of LA and give them a platform to showcase their talent, and we also have our “Last Minute BBQ” that we throw consistently throughout the summer providing dope vibes and place for people to come join us and simply have a good time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, I would be lying if I said it has been, but I cherish the journey with everything. You learn a lot of lessons along the way which is always a good thing to me. I try to take all opportunities to learn and make the best out of them. Music has had ups and downs right along with the clothing and curating events, but myself and my team still prevails with faith and passion for the art.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Like I mentioned in the beginning, I have my hands in a lot of different things. As far as the music, I’m known for my melodic raps and my smooth pockets I fit in; I see myself as a very gifted artist that has a lot of versatility and I plan on showing that a lot more being more consistent this year all around.

As far as the clothing, My partner and I are currently still working to launch our new and improved brand, Rein Nest Facile (Nothing Comes Easy). This reintroduction for us means a lot, mainly hinting to the name because it’s that simple, if you want something, you gotta work for it because nothing comes easy in life at all. We had lots of hiccups come into play with our former brand Authentik Religion and still face trials here and there but we still managed to prevail simply by taking action to get to the next level.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that surprises people about me who may or may not know me is the fact that I have hands in so much stuff at once. Outside of all the dope, creative stuff I mentioned, I also work a regular job, I’m a bus operator. It’s not an easy job and I tend to work lots of hours to be able to pay for these other endeavors I currently have. It’s a surprise for the people who know the face value things about me. I tend to put a lot of the creative things about myself out there more since I feel those are things more interesting or intriguing but I also do a lot of real world, normal things like work and regular job.
