Today we’d like to introduce you to Inessa Nichols.
Hi Inessa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into the world of floral design began 14 years ago, sparked by the immersive creative process of planning my own wedding in 2011. What started as a personal celebration quickly evolved into a professional obsession. I realized that flowers weren’t just decor, they were the living heartbeat of an event’s atmosphere.
To truly master the craft, I started from the ground up. I got my feet wet at a local flower shop in Long Beach, absorbing the fundamentals of stems and seasons. From there, I moved at a relentless pace, filling my calendar by interning and freelancing for the most respected planners, floral designers, and stylists throughout Los Angeles. This “in the trenches” experience was my real-world masterclass in scale, logistics, and the high-stakes artistry of the LA event scene.
As my personal aesthetic began to sharpen, I felt the pull to design for my own roster of clients. Even as I grew Inessa Nichols Design, I continued to freelance for top-tier floral companies, constantly refining my technique and staying inspired by the industry’s best. This period of dual-growth was essential. It allowed me to build a business that is as operationally seamless as it is visually avant-garde.
Today, the brand has matured into a multi-faceted design house. From our dedicated studio space, we’ve expanded far beyond the aisle. While weddings remain at our core, we now curate high-concept florals for corporate activations, private estate events, and strategic brand partnerships. Our work is no longer tethered to a single city. I have traveled the length of the West Coast, from the rugged cliffs of Oregon and Washington to the iconic landscapes of California to bring our signature “soulful elegance” to life for our incredible clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to building Inessa Nichols Design was rarely a smooth, linear path. Like any true craft, the business was forged in the “beautiful mess” of my kitchen and live events. There were many early mornings at the flower market, logistics that tested every boundary, and the steep learning curve of scaling from a solo creative to a full-service production house.
I am a firm believer that expertise isn’t a destination, it’s constant practice and refining. Even after 14 years, the work doesn’t stop when the last candle is lit. After every wedding, corporate activation, and brand partnership, I step back to audit our process. My team and and I are constantly refining our systems, sharpening our logistics, and evolving our approach. This commitment to “the work behind the work” is what allows us to handle the high-pressure environment of luxury events with grace. We don’t just repeat what worked yesterday, we take the lessons from every installation to ensure that our next client receives an even more seamless, elevated, and soulful experience. It is a perpetual state of growth, and that’s exactly why I love what we do and continue to be passionate about the event industry.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a floral designer and creative director specializing in bespoke floral narratives for weddings, high-concept corporate activations, and storied private celebrations.
I am recognized for an architectural approach to organic design. My work lives at the intersection of fine art and high-fashion, defined by a bold, intentional use of color and a focus on sculptural movement. I am best known for my “editorial” eye creating arrangements that feel both wildly natural and sharply sophisticated.
What truly distinguishes my work is a rebellious perspective on botanicals. I am deeply inspired by architecture, fashion, and fine art, and I infuse those structural elements into every installation. I have a particular obsession with underrated and unusual flower varieties. I love the challenge of taking a “forgotten” stem and elevating it into a luxury focal point through unexpected placement and moody, monochromatic, or vibrant color stories. This unconventional lens ensures that no two designs are ever the same.
I am incredibly proud to be a female business owner from an immigrant family who has built this brand from a single seed of an idea into a thriving, multi-faceted design house. After 14 years in the industry, my greatest pride lies in my resilience and evolution.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I believe true luxury is mindful. I lead with a sustainability-first approach, treating environmental responsibility as a design standard rather than an afterthought.
Foam-Free Mechanics: We prioritize architectural, reusable structures over toxic floral foam to achieve our signature sculptural movement.
Local & Seasonal Sourcing: By championing underrated local varieties and West Coast growers, we reduce our carbon footprint while ensuring the highest quality textures.
Refined Waste Management: We constantly audit our logistics to prioritize composting and recycling, minimizing single-use plastics and floral waste. This ensures our high-impact designs leave a lasting impression on your guests not the planet.
