Rising Stars: Meet Heather Yesenia of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Yesenia

Hi Heather, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Heather Yesenia, I’m an actress, photographer, digital artist, and designer born and raised in South Central, LA. My journey began at a young age when I used to perform in school plays, my passion for acting truly started at age 16 when I began a drama class. I have been working on my art ever since then. I’ve been blessed to work in award winning films, short films, theatre, and commercials. All these opportunities have allowed me to meet some of the most inspiring, hard working souls in the business, it’s helped me develop a true love for art in general. I began to fall in love with capturing moments, people and nature at the same time, which helped me develop as an artist in different areas of my life. I picked up a camera (phone camera) at 16 and since then I haven’t put it down. I’m thankful to have discovered my love for art because it’s helped me in so many ways, it’s a road that can be long and weird but if it’s truly a passion of yours then it’s honesty one of the most beautiful roads you’ll ever be on.

I’m the type of person who doesn’t believe in limits, if you want to do something or learn something new then it’s never too late to start. You just need to work hard and truly want it, this is why I can proudly say I’m an actress, BUT I am also so much more. I’m an artist and I fall in love with something new every day. I hope to continue to grow in all areas of my art, and I hope it inspires others to understand that we are able to be more than what we dreamt of. That is my goal as of now to be so happy doing whatever I love and learning new things, 2024 is opening my heart to new possibilities and new ways of creating and I can’t wait to see what else I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I honestly WISH I could say it’s been a smooth road but oh my damn has it been crazy, the road of an artist is truly a rollercoaster. Sometimes you’re at the top of the world, then the next day you’re laying on the ground thinking what’s next. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs, I’ve been close to booking certain exciting jobs, callbacks, pins, to BOOM ‘they went another way’. Yes, this is part of the journey but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck, aside from that I’ve also had personal/health problems that have truly changed my whole life around. I was in two car accidents that changed my life forever, but it’s also made me even more thankful to be here and continue this journey because I’m reminded of how precious life could be and how we only live once so might as well fight for ourselves and our dreams.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m very proud to be from Los Angeles, I think it’s something I want to continue putting in my art; y también soy Mexicana and I’m proud of that. I want to tell stories that represent that, stories told from the heart of LA and someone who knows it very well. As an artist I want to tell stories that represent my culture, I want my art to also reflect that not just with my acting but with my photography, my digital art, and my graphic shirts(COMING SOON). I want to share my story and where I’m from; I am developing a film production company that’s going to focus on stories about Latinos, our stories, our struggles and our accomplishments. I think it’s important to tell stories that truly come from the heart, it’s our truth, our journey and experiences. We are WAY MORE than what you see in movies, and I can’t wait to start sharing our story. I’ve also began to draw more, I’m on a mission to turn every photograph I capture of anyone into an art piece of its own. My photography ShotsdeAmorx has been growing as far as creatively, I have a vision of what I want and I won’t take anything less, I’ve also been working hard on her sister ArtdeAmorx which is nothing but art pieces that come from dreams, heart break and so many beautiful faces I’ve photographed. I am also starting and working on a t shirt line, I’ve put this off for many year and I’ve finally came back to it so I can’t wait to start sharing some of those pieces.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was the outcast, I had a huge imagination, I used to play pretend a lot; I lived in Atlanta for a little bit when I was a kid and we lived surrounded by trees. My imagination would always get the best of me and I would always make up these stories about epic adventures and dragons. I loved performing on stage, I was always in school plays, but I never imagined this would be something I would be doing. I never seen myself chasing this career mostly because as a kid I didn’t know this was something I could do. It was just fun for me to perform and tell stories, I think for the most part the arts was always in me even at a young age and the passion for it grew more and more as I got older and accepted that part of me.
