Rising Stars: Meet Guy Kopelman of West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Guy Kopelman

Hi Guy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am 27. I started playing guitar at the age of 12 so me and 2 of my best friends could start a band (one played keys and one drums). Since then i was hooked.
I went to an arts highschool in Israel where i studied Jazz and took my playing to the next level.
After that i got accepted to the IDF Band as a guitar player and arranger, which was my first real test as a musician in the industry.
Everything changed when one day a very famous Israeli artist named Eliad came to perform a song with my army band, Me and him instantly connected through our mutual love for John Mayer’s music, a couple weeks later Eliad asked me to be his guitar player.
Since that day i’ve played hundreds of shows with him and many other big artists such as Mergui, Eden Hason, Noam Bettan. I also got the chance to be the opening act for Maroon 5 and Bruno mars in front of 60,000 people.

While being at the army, i’ve been introduced to music production by a good friend. I fell in love with it immediately and started making beats and writing songs for fun with my friends, as i got better in it i started to get requests from artists wanting me to produce there songs.
Since then i’ve had the chance to write and produce numerous songs for various artists gaining millions of streams on the various platforms and also charting on Israel’s biggest radio stations.

Last year i’ve decided to take my skills to the next level and make the move to LA ,i’ve been blessed to have a true community here full of good friends and family that have made this transition smooth as can be.

Since moving i’ve got the chance to play with some amazing artists (Cil, Mergui, Hadar Sopher, Thala, Goldie Scott and more..) and write & produce songs with very talented writers and producers that i would’ve never got the chance too if i wouldn’t have made the move.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth. When i was 23 i started a full time job at a Hightech company called Simply
(formerly known as Joytunes) a very successful company that develops apps that teach art skills.
I was a content creator for there guitar app called Simply Guitar, so i basically created the content for the app (build courses, produced songs teaching specific skills and more..).
So there was a period of about 3 years where i finished working at 6pm and immediately started a session ending at 1am because i did not want to give up my career as a producer and guitar player.
Those years taught me a lot and definitely showed me that i know what putting the hard work in means.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I Produce, write songs & play guitar for artists.
I love being in the room with people that i enjoy writing with when there is no idea of what we are going to do and coming out with an amazing song that we’ve created together.

Sometimes i can be in the room with my guitar and come up with a cool chord progression or riff that we write on and sometimes i can be the guy on the computer making the track happen while writing. It really depends on the situation.

In general i rarely work alone, i think the best creations are created with other people bringing the best out of each other and pushing each other to the limits.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
That no matter where you are or who you are with, you can always learn a valuable lesson.
So always be open and ready to learn something new.

You can never know what the most random situations can bring upon you.
