Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Adams.
Hi Gabrielle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I never originally set out to be a makeup artist. My plan was to pursue a career in art and go to school for it, but along the way, I discovered I had a talent for makeup and it quickly became my passion. I started freelancing in Houston, Texas, taking on any opportunity I could to gain experience and build confidence.
Once I found my footing, I started working on small teams for shows like Miami Swim Week, NYFW and LAFW. It was at LAFW that I met Scott Barnes, which turned out to be a major turning point in my career. I went on to assist Scott for five years and it was truly one of the most invaluable experiences of my career so far. I learned everything from refining my artistry, to understanding the business side of the beauty industry.
One of the highlights of that time was assisting Scott on Kiss of the Spider Woman with Jennifer Lopez in 2024. Being part of such incredible projects has pushed me to grow not only as an artist but as a professional. Now, I’m focused on building my own career, continuing to grow and pouring everything I’ve learned into my work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. I’ve faced a lot of obstacles that at times, felt like complete roadblocks. There were moments when I wasn’t sure if things were going to work out or if I was even on the right path. I’ve had times where I felt discouraged and self-doubt would start to creep in.
However, even in those moments, I kept pushing forward and working hard, even when things were uncertain. Every challenge has taught me something and shaped who I am as an artist.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been a makeup artist for around 9 years, in that time I’ve had the chance to work on a variety of projects. What I love most about what I do is the collaborative process, I really enjoy working with a team that shares the creative vision and bringing that vision to life together.
I think part of what sets me apart is the experience I bring and the mindset I’ve developed from working in so many different environments.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built and the trust my clients have in me. Whether I’m working with someone for a major event or a personal milestone it’s important to me that each person I work with feels confident and proud of what we created together.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People would probably be surprised by a lot of things about me! Apparently, one of them is how clean I keep my car.
