Rising Stars: Meet Elisha Krauss of N/a

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisha Krauss.

Hi Elisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Miami, FL to a RN and a Coast Guard officer. When I was eight we moved to SE OK where my dad is from, he was a corporate pilot at the time and an only child who needed to be closer to his parents. My mom homeschooled me and my two sisters. My paternal grandfather was a local judge and very involved in the community and my mom got plugged in there too running the local Republican Party. When I was 12 she ran for office for the first time and I got the political bug. I knew I wanted to work in media or politics so when I got a partial scholarship to a school in NYC I jumped at the opportunity.

I’d always had a job though so a couple of weeks into the school year I googled internships and started working at WABC for three different shows. Over Christmas break the producer for one of the shows called and asked if I could come back in the Spring and run their internship program as a “senior intern.” I said yes and soon after they offered me a job as a call screener. It’s the worst gig to have in radio imho but I learned a lot about media, news, and corporate culture.

In a few months I was promoted to associate producer, then a couple of years later senior producer. In total I got to work on the show for seven years and see a lot of the country amongst the hundreds of affiliates the host broadcast his daily 3-6pm show on. It was a cool experience that allowed me to stay tapped into “real” America while living as a 20 something in NYC.

In 2012 my husband and I relocated for a bit and I ran a failed congressional campaign in my home state. Then, an old boss called and asked me to audition for a morning radio show here in LA. I had never been here and from the moment we landed fell in love with the skyline from DTLA to the mountains.

I did that morning show for four years and have worked at conservative media companies in LA ever since. Now I freelance and deliver the news for the Adam Carolla podcast, commentate on tv and podcasts, speak on campuses around the country and write.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It never has been and I don’t think it ever will. I’m now pushing 40 and there’s a lot of younger, hotter, and smarter than me to “compete” with. But my faith, family and friends keep me grounded and I just stay true to what I believe and my core principles… even when they’ve gotten me fired or pushed out of companies.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mean, it’s pretty rare to be a conservative person in LA… But it’s fun to debate and dialogue with people who are different than me. I truly love California and wouldn’t want to live somewhere where everyone thinks the same or look the same. I enjoy going around the country and engaging with young people, especially young women who feel like they can’t speak up out of fear of violence, doxxing, not getting a good grade or not getting hired. I’m most proud of a mentorship program I have where I’ve been able to meet and work with dozens of women from the ages of 18-30.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Trust your gut. Treat everyone the same, from a CEO to the janitor. Sometimes it’s good to keep y0ur opinions to yourself. You can truly only speak into someone’s life when you’ve had some struggles, some wisdom, some time and relationship with them.
