Today we’d like to introduce you to David Ortiz.
Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My Name is David Ortiz, Growing up I was always in tune with music, My first Initial Thought was to be in a band. I grew up listening to Heavy Metal, Rock, Punk Rock, Rap, Etc. My Dad use to be a DJ and introduced me to music at a young age ranging from Krs-One, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, And More. And My Mother who played Oldies And Funk and Pop like Debbie Deb, Stacey Q, Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, And More. Growing Up was Rough. I was always getting in trouble, Violence was Everywhere, Depression was always On My Mind, Failing School And Being around Gangs All through My Life. Born and raised in Los Angeles with Nothing planned for my future and failures of most of my success was something that made me pursue music. Around High School I was always Freestyling, and Rapping just for fun and have had people told me to make music and I never really thought I was good.Until I met someone. Her Name was Victoria Rico. This Women is the opposite of Me. She doesn’t listen to Rap, but my music she loved, Especially my aggressive Ones. She told me that it was something I should continue doing to avoid getting myself in trouble. I also had the help of a best friend of mine from highschool Saul Varo. He Helped Distribute, Produce, And Made me the person I am today. He has seen me go through numerous stages of my life/career. From Suicide to Being Poor to Being Finally Happy. These people changed my life for the better and couldn’t ask for such a blessing relationship from both of them. Music and them helped me realized it was a gift to be alive and that the situations i endured was the door to expressing myself through music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think anyone’s life always has those moments of Ups and Downs. Most of my life I had troubles with death, depression, gangs, violence and drug abuse. From Having a Split Family, To Being Locked Up, To Having My Two Close best Friends Eddie And Quentin getting killed right in front of my eyes. That Really Changed My Life… For the Best and Worst. I locked my feelings shut and became the worst version of Me. I was abusing Drugs. Acting Very Violent and Depressed. Didn’t have a care in the world ever since the passings. But Also Made Me realized that I should learn to love life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a music Artist that I go by Block$ide$av . I make music ranging from RnB, To Story telling to Trap. I am known for my music being very aggressive but yet lyrical spoken. I am most proud of continuing my path into the industry and growing as a human being. I overcame so many obstacles and became such a better version of myself overall.
