Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Gonzalez.
Hi Crystal, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Oxnard, California, and I’m a second-generation Mexican American. In 2022, I moved to Long Beach to transfer from Oxnard College to Cal State Long Beach, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing.
After graduating, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in a field I was truly passionate about. I realized that I’m at my happiest when I’m surrounded by the energy of sporting and live entertainment events. That realization led me to take a risk and jump into the sports industry, starting as an Inside Sales Representative with the LA Galaxy.
Within a few months, I discovered how much I enjoyed my work and set a long-term goal of one day working for the Dodgers. While at the Galaxy, I also took on a part-time game day role with the Dodgers. After a few months, I was offered a full-time Inside Sales Representative position with the team.
When my time with the Dodgers’ sales program concluded, I wanted to continue growing in the live entertainment space. That led me to my current role as a Sales Coordinator at Ticketmaster.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definitely a lot of obstacles along the way. To start, I was completely on my own in this journey. I moved to the LA area not really knowing anyone and without any family nearby to lean on.
While my parents back home in Oxnard supported me in every way they could, I wanted to do this on my own—to prove to myself what I was capable of.
Being the first in my family to move away and build something for myself came with a lot of challenges, including moments of doubt and imposter syndrome. But those experiences pushed me to grow stronger and more confident in my abilities.
On top of the mental challenges, there were financial ones as well. Living in LA is expensive, and balancing school and work wasn’t always easy. There were times I struggled to make ends meet, but those moments taught me resilience, discipline, and the value of perseverance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
