Rising Stars: Meet Christopher Kwok

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Kwok.

Christopher Kwok

Hi Christopher, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was never a kid that did well in school or fit in with the conventions and pathways that my peers at the time were following. I always knew from the start that no matter how hard I pushed or convinced myself to try in school, it was not going to work. I finished middle school in 2015 in Hong Kong and was met with a decision. I could either pursue high school and go the college route or take a leap of faith and take a risk to try something different. Deep down, I knew that I would be going against my innate self if I continued in school. Against my teachers and families advices, I decided to try my hand in screen acting, knowing I had a hidden passion for the film industry since I was 12. and was obsessed with fitness as well. I moved to Hollywood, California, and started studying method acting, directing, and basically all things film. I took the work more seriously than anything I faced in school, and for the first time, I felt like I was actually learning and growing. Along with that, fitness and bodybuilding were heavily entrenched in my lifestyle. I started teaching people to get fit as well. Eventually, a couple of years in, I was able to find some work in the modeling and personal training industries, amassing a reasonably steady flow of clients at the time, allowing me to continue living in LA while grinding out the acting school and audition lifestyle. I then went back to Hong Kong to pursue building a personal training business full-time in 2019 and did that through until 2023. Today, I continue my role as a trainer, trying to improve the wellness of the people I work with, and I am planning on going back into film school to continue acting training and trying my hand at modeling.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path I chose definitely had its fair share of challenges. I was extremely shy and self-conscious growing up and had a hard time emotionally connecting with people. Starting to learn acting threw me into a state where I was forced to drop the ego and open up emotionally and socially to others, and to stop dwelling on what I thought other people thought of me. It was one of the hardest yet most liberating experiences of my life. Along with that, the cutthroat nature and high rejection rate of the industry make you develop a thick skin and learn not to take things personally, and you also get used to the uncertainty that the lifestyle brings. There were moments of self-doubt for sure, where I kept thinking whether I had made the right choice to leave school and pursue these goals were.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently am a male model and fitness coach who helps people within person training and customized workout and nutrition plans, and I’m looking to ultimately become a screen actor in the future.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me would be to create a stable flow of income to live without worries from doing the things that make you feel fulfilled and enriched in life. Getting rich and having a lot of money was never a big priority for me. The main goal was always financial stability while having the opportunity to do the things I find meaningful. Of course, being on a high level money-wise is always a bonus, but I view success as more of an emotional and spiritual state as opposed to a societal standing. Another big part of success for me is health and wellness. Keeping my body fit by proper nutrition and training has helped my physical and mental health tremendously. It is one of the things I am most proud about and will continue doing until the day I die.
