Rising Stars: Meet Chris “SlickThePoet” Williams of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris “SlickThePoet” Williams.

Hi Chris “SlickThePoet”, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hey there my name is Christopher Williams, some people know me as “SlickThePoet”. It all started when I was very young. I always kept a lil journal with me and I would write different storylines and different comic stories. I was a big comic book fan growing up, so I would always write my own lil stories. I always was an entertainer, I danced at talent shows mimicking big artist like Michael Jackson or Chris Brown. I loved entertaining but I felt like that’s all I was, entertaining. I wanted my own voice, to tell my own story. Writing became a getaway for me, It gave me my own voice. After finding my passion for writing, I ended up becoming a young father at the age of 17. My daughter Jordyn was born, I was a single parent with a beautiful daughter. In the mist of being a young father, my voice would grow louder as I started to create music. I became “SlickThePoet” I wrote poetry, I stopped doing talent shows and started giving the world my voice. My first big show was me doing poetry and from there I started creating music. After being in Louisiana my whole life, it was time for a change. I moved to California to better myself and show my daughter there is more to the world. I went through sleeping in my car, but I just kept going. Now I have a 1 year old son named Peace and a family I made of my own. My passion is still music and writing but now it’s time to give the world my next chapter of my life which is creating books with my daughter and son. There is always more you can learn about me at SlickThePoet.com

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
People man, I had to understand that not everyone has good intentions. Not everyone wants to see you doing good. I learned to be alone and to move forward. Always keep going no matter what. If you let other people kill your dreams it’s going to haunt you forever

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My name is SlickThePoet, I started off doing talent shows but I always loved writing poetry. I am an all around talent. I wanted to have a bigger voice on a bigger stage so I started writing music. I started mix and mastering my own music and shooting my own music videos. I am proud of the way that I always make things happen no matter the odds that are stacked against me. What makes me different from the rest is that I also wrote a children’s book called “Daddy’s Home” and I plan to write more and I plan to never quit making music. I just want to give myself and other people a free space to be amazing artist and people without bad intentions

What was your favorite childhood memory?
A couple of days after Michael Jackson passed away I was asked to do a talent show in honor of him. It’s one of the coolest performances I did. The crowd was screaming and I was dancing, it was one of the best experiences I had in my life.
