Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Pastel.
Hi Bianca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I studied art and design at Columbia College before working alongside my then-boss and current mentor, Hebru Brantley. My portfolio ranges from fine art and screen prints, album art and children’s literature illustration, to animation and merchandise with clients such as Nike, Adidas, Disney Pixar, and the NFL. Bianca’s current focus is creating an imaginative cartoon in multiple mediums empowering the experience of being a black child and dealing with mental health issues.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a rollercoaster. Freelance artistry comes with a lot of highs and lows. Sometimes the lows can last longer than you expect while the highs can be short-lived. My biggest struggle is trying to remain confident in myself and be aware that the lows won’t last forever.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As of this year, I have focused mainly on painting and fine art. I can do illustration, graphic design, creative direction, color theory, and animation. I’m most known for the creation of my character Binky. I am most proud of having my recent first solo art show in February of 2024. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’ve sat in a space long enough to absorb everything I know more than I’ve actually created, which makes me feel like I have a well of creations to share.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My first time going to Disney World at the age of 4
