Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Jane Jackson.
Hi Anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in greater Los Angeles and was inevitably surrounded by the entertainment industry. I began training and creating content at the age of 7, and discovered multiple passions including acting, modeling, music, writing, and producing. When I was in high school, I was the lead singer of a country-Americana band, and I started modeling for brands and designers in the U.S. and abroad.
After I graduated high school, I trained intensively for acting for four years and I continued to write and produce. I have been lucky enough to write scripts and soundtracks for films, as well as perform! Currently, I’m studying Business Administration at Purdue University online. That, and I serve as Creative Director for JEM (Jackson Entertainment Management).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I like to be as honest as possible, so I always stress that nobody’s, (especially in the entertainment industry) journey is going to be a flat road. It takes incredible drive, determination, and genuine passion to make it in an industry like this.
You experience a ton of rejection, (which I like to call re-direction!) and you encounter some interesting personalities! I feel very blessed to have the support that I have, though, and that makes it so much more doable to continue to work hard.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Even though I work behind the scenes as well, (producing, creative directing, writing..) I consider myself an artist above all. I love the art of acting and music, which reminds me of why I’m doing what I’m doing. I like to have a thirst for knowledge, and so I’m always looking for ways I can improve in all aspects. I’m enjoying studying the more pragmatic, business side of things.
I recently picture-wrapped a project I acted in which I also got to help produce for the first time. Currently, we are in post-production. It’s a sci-fi screenplay pilot-to-novel, called The Crest.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
It’s interesting because growing up I was very shy… I don’t think anyone would have expected me to be a performer. It’s more of something I fell into, growing up near Los Angeles. The longer I’ve been in the entertainment industry, though, the more I find that being a sensitive, empathetic person at heart makes me a better artist, writer, and performer.
I had a pretty normal childhood, though. (Besides acting) I grew up in the suburbs with my mom, dad, and brother. My brother is two and a half years older than me, so being pretty close in age, we would play together a lot. I’m glad I had that experience of just being a kid, and getting roughed up outdoors!
