Meet Zack Perez of Astral Media in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Perez.

Zack, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Astral Media started off as a fun hobby that I started back in 2014. I was booking concerts at the time and loved documenting my shows by taking photos of the events. Eventually I became more comfortable behind the camera and ended up picking up a Sony a6000. This camera opened my eyes to the creative potential of photography, I was immediately hooked.

Over the next 2 years I worked hard taking photos/recording videos at every concert I could attend in Southern California. With every show I shot at, my audience continued building up little by little. At this time, I realized that photo/video is my calling & my passion and went all in. I began perfecting my craft, staying up night after night honing my editing skills and learning new skills behind the camera as well.

Around this same time, I began writing/shooting for the music publication The New Fury. This opportunity was huge for me as it allowed me to cover huge music festivals & concerts with amazing bands that tour the world. These festivals gave my social media a huge boost in followers & engagement. People really began to take interest in my work.

Over the past year I have been working full time professionally creating music videos & shooting photos for artist nation-wide of all genres & types. I also work with models, clothing brands & weddings/events. I’m very grateful to be able to continue to perfect my craft for a living. I’d like to thank all of my amazing photographer friends & buddies in the music industry / friends in general who have given me work or shared my work around.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The photography & videography field is an insanely over-saturated market. To stand out, you really have to do something different and blow people’s minds. My whole concept was to visually create work that would speak for itself, then work as hard as possible to showcase my work to as many people as possible.

I have spent countless nights promoting my work on social media, going to local shows and spreading the word and even doing free work in my early days. I definitely paid my dues, and still continue to do so I may continue to spread my work to the masses. The grind never ends.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Astral Media – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is called Astral Media, we are a Creative Photo/Video service.
