Meet Yuhsin Hung of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuhsin Hung.

Hi Yuhsin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Cindy, my artist name is DAZZLE$. I’m originally from Taiwan. My relationship with music started long before I ever stepped behind the decks. I began playing piano at the age of five, sang in choir throughout elementary school, and later learned drums and played in bands during high school. I even helped form my school’s first all-girl band.

I was first drawn to electronic music when I was in middle school. At the time, EDM wasn’t as accessible in China, and I didn’t even know the different genres yet. I spent countless hours online searching for DJ sets and electronic music from around the world. Eventually, artists like Skrillex, NGHTMRE, and Zomboy introduced me to dubstep, and I immediately fell in love with its raw energy. There was something about the music that ignited a fire inside me and made me feel limitless.

After graduating from college, I moved to San Francisco in 2016 to pursue my master’s degrees. For the first time, I was fully immersed in EDM culture. I attended countless raves and festivals across the United States and became deeply involved in the bass music scene. During those years, I often imagined what it would be like to stand on stage one day and inspire people through music the same way my favorite artists had inspired me. However, between pursuing two master’s degrees and building a career, I never felt like I had the time to seriously chase that dream.

Everything changed in 2018 when I survived a major car accident. My car flipped upside down and was completely totaled. Walking away from that experience made me realize how fragile life can be. It forced me to reevaluate what truly mattered to me. I promised myself that if there was something I wanted to do, I would stop waiting for the “perfect time” and simply go for it.

During the pandemic in 2020, I returned to China and began learning how to DJ. What started as a passion project quickly gained momentum. Within a short period of time, I was booking shows across China, building a dedicated fanbase, and earning recognition from the scene. In 2021, I was nominated by Dubstep China for both Top 50 Dubstep DJs in China and Best Newcomer.

When I returned to the United States, I landed my U.S. debut at one of San Francisco’s most iconic bass music venues, DNA Lounge. DNA had always felt like my second home. It was where I spent years learning, dancing, and developing my understanding of dubstep culture. That first performance opened many doors, and I gradually worked my way up from early opening slots to direct support positions for major artists. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to support artists such as DJ DIESEL, LEVEL UP, PhaseOne, ATLiens, Virtual Riot, Flux Pavilion, YDG, and many others, while performing at major events including Toxic Summer Festival.

As my career progressed, I realized that if I truly wanted to evolve as an artist, I needed to create my own music. While working full-time as a reporter for Sing Tao Daily, I began studying music production through Icon Collective’s online program. Balancing journalism and music was challenging, but I knew I wanted to build something bigger than myself.

In 2025, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. After spending nearly a decade in San Francisco, I left the city I called home, resigned from my reporting career, and moved to Hollywood to pursue music full-time. I enrolled at Musician’s Institute to continue developing my production skills and intentionally stepped outside of my comfort zone.

I was nervous about starting over in Los Angeles, but to my surprise, opportunities came quickly. Within a short period of time, I began playing larger shows, gained recognition in a new market, and even performed my first headlining show in Los Angeles.

Beyond performing, I am also the founder of REUNION, an event brand I launched in China to help bridge the bass music communities between Asia and North America. Through REUNION, I’ve brought artists such as Codd Dubz, HE$H, Usaybflow, LYNY, Sanzu, 7L, and more to China for their debut performances, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and helping grow the bass music scene internationally.

Today, my mission remains the same as when I first discovered dubstep years ago: to create music and experiences that make people feel alive. Whether I’m performing on stage, producing music in the studio, or building events through REUNION, everything I do is driven by a love for bass music and a belief that it’s never too late to chase the life you truly want.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. While I’m incredibly grateful for where I am today, the journey has been far from smooth.

One of the biggest challenges was simply finding the courage to pursue music seriously. Like many people, I followed a more traditional path at first. I moved to the United States for graduate school, earned two master’s degrees, and built a stable career as a reporter. Music was always my passion, but for a long time it felt like something I had to fit around school, work, and life responsibilities.

A major turning point came after a serious car accident in 2018. My car flipped upside down and was completely totaled. Surviving that experience changed my perspective on life. It made me realize that there is never a perfect time to chase your dreams, and that waiting out of fear can be more dangerous than taking a chance.

Another challenge was balancing a full-time career while trying to grow as an artist. For years, I worked long hours as a journalist during the day and spent nights and weekends practicing, traveling for shows, learning production, and building my brand. There were many moments when I was exhausted and questioned whether I could keep doing both.

Moving from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 2025 was another leap of faith. I left behind a city that had been my home for nearly a decade, quit my stable job, and started over in a much more competitive music market. I knew nobody could guarantee success, and there was always the possibility that things wouldn’t work out. That uncertainty was scary, but I also knew I would regret not trying.

Beyond my own artist career, running REUNION has taught me how difficult the music industry can be behind the scenes. Bringing international bass artists to China often involves financial risks, logistical challenges, and countless unexpected obstacles. Many events barely break even, and some lose money entirely. But seeing the community come together and helping grow the bass scene makes it worth it.

Looking back, every setback has taught me something valuable. The challenges forced me to become more resilient, more adaptable, and more confident in my vision. If anything, the difficult moments are what make the victories feel meaningful.

I’m a DJ, producer, and event organizer dedicated to growing bass music culture both in the United States and Asia.

As DAZZLE$, I specialize in Dubstep, Riddim, Trap, and other forms of heavy bass music. My sets are known for their high energy, technical mixing, and creative track selection. I love building moments that surprise people through double drops, mega chops, and unexpected transitions while still maintaining a strong musical journey from beginning to end. My goal is always to create an experience that leaves people feeling energized and connected.

Beyond performing, I’m also the founder of REUNION, a bass music event brand I launched in China. Through REUNION, I’ve helped bring artists such as Codd Dubz, HE$H, Usaybflow, Sanzu, 7L, and others to China for their debut performances. What started as a passion project has grown into a platform focused on connecting bass music communities across different countries and cultures.

What I’m most proud of is not any particular show or achievement, but the community that has formed around the music. Seeing people travel across cities to attend events, watching fans become friends, and helping create opportunities for artists on both sides of the world has been incredibly rewarding.

I think what sets me apart is my unique perspective. I’ve experienced the bass music scene from multiple angles—as a fan, a DJ, a producer, a promoter, and even a journalist. I’ve spent years immersed in both the American and Chinese bass music communities, which has given me a deeper understanding of how music can connect people regardless of language or background.

I’m also someone who wasn’t afraid to start over. I earned two master’s degrees, built a successful career outside of music, and then chose to leave that stability behind to pursue this path full-time. That experience taught me resilience and gave me a strong sense of purpose. Everything I do today—whether it’s performing, producing, or organizing events—is driven by a genuine love for the culture and a desire to help it grow.

At the end of the day, I want people to remember me not only as a DJ who throws down heavy sets, but as someone who helped build bridges, create opportunities, and bring people together through bass music.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that there will never be a perfect time to pursue what truly matters to you.

For a long time, I kept telling myself that I would focus on music later—after school, after work became less busy, after life felt more stable. Then in 2018, I survived a serious car accident that completely changed my perspective. Walking away from that experience made me realize how fragile and unpredictable life can be.

Since then, I’ve learned that waiting for the “right moment” is often just fear disguised as preparation. If something genuinely excites you and gives your life meaning, sometimes you have to take the leap before you feel fully ready.

If there’s one message I hope people take away from my story, it’s this: life is shorter than we think. Don’t wait for permission, don’t wait for certainty, and don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start now, learn as you go, and trust yourself enough to take the first step.
