Today we’d like to introduce you to Yatzil Elizalde
Hi Yatzil, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started drawing when I was 7 years old and that’s how I first got into the world of art, once I discovered tattoos at about 18 years old, I was fascinated by the idea of making a piece of art but on a person, something that is for life and something that is very important to that person. I liked to think how my art was going to transcend in that way. I started in Hermosillo, Sonora where I am from, then on the way to learn and improve as an artist, I started to travel, there I moved to Mexico City, opened my own studio. Then, I had the opportunity to come to Los Angeles to tattoo with Kat Von D who invited me to join her studio, then with Ganga Tattoo Studio where I am now, which is a studio with a very good reputation and one of the best in the city. I think consistency and passion for what I do has brought me this far.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been ups and downs, but I think every time I’ve found a way to work it out because there’s nothing you can’t do. I think the beginning was the hardest, because that’s when you need to practice and you have to put all your time into it, get money, contacts. Once the clients trust you, they see the results and you are happy with those results, all that changes.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in fine line tattoo, black and grey, and my style which is what I’m known for, I call it Blurry. It’s something I like to do a lot. I can say that I am a pioneer in this style, I created it and that’s how I became known.
I am very proud that my art has reached other countries, far away places around the world, that I never imagined. From Japan to Australia.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If you are interested in seeing a little more of my work, follow me on social media. And if you’re ever in LA, I’m at Ganga Tattoo Studio in West Hollywood, I’d love to meet you and your story.
