Today we’d like to introduce you to Winner Watts.
Winner, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my first business when I was 18 years old and from there I fell in love with the building, creating and adding multiple streams of income. The first business venture I got into was photography. I wanted to capture beautiful moments of life so that they can be relived again. Over the span of the next six years, I expanded my knowledge and businesses to become a clothing line designer and business owner, graphic designer, credit repair consultant, real estate agent, and co-owner for a non-profit organization. I got into retail because I wanted another form to convey a message through clothing and for individuals to use this as an avenue to showcase their individuality. I taught myself graphic designing because visuals go hand and hand with creative art. I thrived on expanding my knowledge to be able to produce and creative on my own terms and not leave my vision in the hands of anyone else. I just became obsessed with that and then at that point taught myself about everything else I wanted to embark upon. Credit repair was also another venture I wanted to get into because like most black households, we weren’t taught how to rebuild restore or replenish our credit scores simply because it isn’t taught in school and it isn’t the conversation we have at the dinner table.
After credit repair, I decided it was time to learn how to buy the block back, so I went ahead and went to get my Real Estate license. So I can learn and TEACH the ins and outs about buying, selling, renting, flipping, and investing. Most important and beneficial of all was being part of creating a nonprofit dedicated to mental health for youth called The Healing Circle Los Angeles. With so many adversities and situational stressed I experienced in my life, I knew that I wanted to be part of a larger movement to create a safe place for people to come together for the progression and expansion of positivity, self-love, and mental health.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’ll always be bumps in the road but the thing I love the most about difficult paths it makes you into who you’ll need to be. You don’t know who you are until you’ve been tested. You actually don’t know who you truly are until you respond to adversity. Life has always been 10% what happens and 90% how you respond to it. No manner the situation what choice do you have but to WIN and to OVERCOME. I can’t name all of my struggles because they are so far in between yet the point is we will always have to face issues just stay resilient and following through because how good would getting up feel like unless we knew how bad getting knocked down to felt.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Healing Circle LA & Serial Entrepreneur story. Tell us more about the business.
My main business is Real Estate selling, buying, renting, and investing also conducting and curating THC.LA. THC.LA is a space provided to help break down the struggles and traumas we all face on the daily and have gone through for over 400 years. We help grant a contextual understanding based on a diverse range of perspectives and heal in a holistic way.
I am proud of the dedication, the commitment, the driving force of our team and our community, to come together to recognize their struggles, and want to find common solutions to the issue they have with mental health and the stigmas behind it. I am proud that my community was able to come forth and be open to helping themselves heal with the tools we implement.
What makes my ice water colder is the fact that I add more ice cubes. I mean that I add so many skill sets to cut out the middle man to convey my vision in a unique way.
My ability to give I do not complain, I do not quit, I strategize, I organize, I implement, I continuously grow I do not get complacent, and I keep the marathon going!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Although it may seem like a norm to believe things happen by chance, and luck favors only a few, I, however, do not believe in luck. My reasoning behind this belief is that I feel luck is by chance, based on the situation, not based on a person’s actions. I do not believe in luck because I believe myself to be an action-oriented person. Faith is the driving force of my actions. I have faith every day that the actions and moves I make towards success will in fact be successful. I have faith that the things I am doing to make myself and my family secure and safe. Faith has played a big role because it has always given me the strength to persevere, take risks, and strive for more. Without faith there is fear, and with too much fear comes paralyzes. I am thankful my faith has brought me this success thus far, and I intend to continue my marathon and believe in myself that I can continue to achieve greatness.
