Today we’d like to introduce you to William Sabatini
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Started DJing in the 90’s illegal rave and underground parties. Moved to NYC in 1999 and soon after became a full time Dj for bars, clubs, restaurants, corporate events, and more. In 2005 I started my own record label called Sol Selectas, releasing limited run vinyl copies. As my sound evolved, I became more stablished for a “global sound” mixing house and downtempo with World Music, including African, Latin, Middle Eastern and Oriental sounds.
In 2010 I moved to Los Angeles and continued to flourish as DJ in the festival scene, including Lightening in A Bottle, Symbiosis, and particularly Burning Man. Met my current wife in 2013. She is a graphic designer and helped to elevate the look and feel of our brand Sol Selectas, to become internationally recognized. We are now considered the pioneers of the “Organic House / Downtempo ” movement in dance music. With Sol Selectas as our platform, we were able to help countless young artists establish themselves on an international stage. We continue to release music, promote events, and cultural experiences around the World. We hold residencies at some of the most prestigious locations around the Globe, including Scorpios Mykonos, Savaya Bali, and Surf Club Dubai.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is never smooth and easy. I worked and hustled non stop for years to get where we are now. I found the most difficult hurdle was to find people to work for me, that had the same level of passion and commitment that I do, So many are not willing to put in the work and sacrifice it takes to run a successful music label and brand. Almost 20 years later and the record label is still run entirely by my wife and I. I do all the A&R work for the music, and my wife does all the creative branding and art direction. With that happening I still frequently tour as a DJ around the World.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sol Selectas?
Sol Selectas Records specializes in deep tribal dance music, mixing folkloric sounds and ancient rhythms with modern electronic grooves. Founded by DJ/Producer Sabo in New York City in 2005, the label is now run by Sabo and his wife Helia Jamali, whose artwork and design re-awakened the spirit of Sol Selectas, through her visual interpretation of the audio frequencies.
With now over 120 releases, showcase events, and residencies around the World, Sol Selectas leads the way in organic house, downtempo, and afro house, consistently topping the charts and setting trends.
The music of Sol Selectas guides listeners into the future with positive energy, inviting them on a journey of rhythmic transformation and cultural fusion.
Everything we do is done with passion, and we do not incorporate AI for our artwork, nor for our music. We curate everything by hand and its done with love.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see a divide happening between brands and record labels that stay true to the human experience, and brands that simply use technology for profit. AI seems to be invading the creative artistic space, and blurring the lines between what is real and what is computer generated. However, I think true fans of music and dance gatherings will excel within this changing landscape, as the desire for reality in a computerized Word will become more and more essential.
