Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ashim Kumar.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My grandfather and father were both physicians, and it was expected of me to become one as well. The toughest part was to decide what kind of physician. I kept asking my father how he stayed positive, working through long hours, and weekends, sometimes being away from his family etc. He told me he went to work to see his “friends”, and not his patients. This certainly inspired me to have empathy for my own patients, kept me motivated that I can have a real impact on people’s lives and ultimately into the world.
Fast forward I have completed my fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility through a combined program that allowed me to work with world-renowned leaders in the field at both University of California Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. I went on to do my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
In the recent years I have focused my efforts in assisting those who have had difficulty conceiving and require third party reproduction (egg donor and/or gestational surrogacy).
Has it been a smooth road?
Life is never a smooth road and there are always ups and downs, of course. 3 and a half years ago, before Western Fertility Institute came to life, the atmosphere in the previous practice was focused more on the negative sides and aspects of the process. And I was trying to figure out, why would that be, as we do get to experience the miracle of life each and every day.
At that moment in time, I realized I have to turn this around, and being able to create a new positive space for our patients and also our employees was a great accomplishment. We are here to create life, and good vibes is all we want to be surrounded by and also pass along to our patients.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Western Fertility Institute – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Western Fertility Institute offers comprehensive fertility services, such as IVF, IUI, Egg Freezing, Gender Selection, Egg Donation, and Surrogacy. We work with both domestic couples and individuals, as well as international, of all sexual orientations. We have patients that we helped come from Asia, Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe.
We are known for ranking #1 for our success rates with the CDC, in the USA (as well as California). Also, the empathy of our staff and myself, always striving and putting our patients on the first place. Their success is ultimately our success and pride.
I am certainly most proud of the people I get to work with every day, my staff. Without them, I would not be where I am today. Each one of them is incredibly talented and with a deep care for our patients. This does lead to our current high success rates as a fertility practice, highest in the nation, all in an amazing and positive environment, so that our patients can emotionally persevere through their fertility treatments.
This sense of community is what sets as apart. We want our patients to feel they are part of an extended family and not just a chart number or a name in a computer. As their doctor they have access to myself directly, anytime the occasion arises. It is the personal touch and close relationship that makes their journeys easier to navigate.
My favorite moments are when our patients come back to visit with their babies. I am always reminded that creating life is beautiful, and how incredibly lucky I am to experience this every day. Parenthood is a wonderful destination and I am so honored to be a part of such amazing journeys.
I wake up every morning knowing that day I will have the chance to change someone’s life, and contribute to their dreams becoming a reality.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best – diversity of the city. We have so many ethnicities, and how amazing this is, we get to learn from each other, and also grow together.
Least – traffic, would probably be it!
