Meet Vanduncan Johnson-Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanduncan Johnson-Phillips.

Vanduncan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m from Massachusetts and I went to school in New York City for acting. From New York, I made my way to Los Angeles and revived my BFA in acting from AMDA college and Conservatory. After graduation, I looked for a way to stave off having to comment to a 9-5 job for as long as possible while pursuing my acting career I started my own photography business.

For the last four years, I have been taking portraits from Headshots to Behind the Scenes on Music Videos. My recent photography work has headed in a new direction. I’m cutting in the process of doing my first photography gallery on the homeless situation in Los Angeles. It’s entirely “The Background project .”

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to here has been filled with ups and downs. From the loss of my father who I had been estranged from was murdered when we had just begun to really to talk daily. But since his passing my brother and I have become closer since.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company @quietlyjournaling on Instagram is a photography company that specializes in high Fashion photography. We got our start taking photos of actors and dancers who have never really any modeling experience and taught them how to pose. In doing so we have gained a lot of notice and spawned many copy cat companies. Which I love, everyone that we have worked with are such talented and incredible artists. What makes us Unique is our fast turnaround time on Photos and our family service, we try to make every one of our shoots a fun and comfortable time for everyone no matter the comfortability in front of the camera.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is full of opportunities for those who are willing to search them out. If I was just starting out, I would recommend going full out and try to connect with as many orders as possible in your specific field.

• Headshots $200 for 1 look and $50 for each additional look
• Lifestyle $150 and $75 for each additional look
