Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyron Brackenridge.
Tyron, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Pasadena, California. My dad went to John Muir High School and my mom went to Pasadena High School. My mom moved us to the Inland Empire, I attended Upland High School. I grew up playing sports in both cities with the Pasadena Ponies and Upland Pop Warner respectively. I played football at Upland High School and Chaffey College, and eventually I ended up at Washington State. I entered the 2007 NFL Draft and I signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. During my NFL tenure, I also played for the New York Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing in the CFL (Canadian Football League) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
After the league, I realized I wanted to take a more proactive approach when it came to my finances and teaching other players what they needed to do to build a legacy after sports. Now I mentor athletes and lower and middle-income individuals on financial literacy, striving to make the American dream accessible to everyone, no matter where they come from.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think a lot of people assume that all professional athletes are set for life, but the truth is there’s a lot of discipline such as making proper financial decisions. For me, it took a while to understand the language of wealth. It took a lot of time to dive into my own self-limiting beliefs about money before I could understand how to address my behaviors and habits. I had to overcome many preconceptions about wealth to get to where I am today. When I was finally able to conquer my outdated mindset, the world opened up for me.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with B.O.S.S. Empire – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
What sets me apart is my ability to educate people and create opportunities. Specializing in financial literacy and leadership, I’m most proud of having created opportunities for people to set themselves up for financial freedom.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the diversity. We all come from different walks of life but we all have that “Cali Mindset”. It’s not the easiest place to grow up and or “make it out”. Speaking for myself that has created my high levels of determination. Nothing is handed to you. You have to “earn it” or “take it”.
