Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn & Justine Wong.
HangryDiary is the sister-sister pairing of Jocelyn and Justine. Their passion for exploring new restaurants inspired them to become food bloggers after graduating from USC and UCLA, respectively. They were raised in Hong Kong but moved to Los Angeles to study. You can often find them eating at the hottest restaurants in town and taking an obscene amount of time to shoot that perfect angle.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When we first started Hangrydiary, we spent many sleepless nights searching for tasty restaurants and scheduling visits. As we both have full-time jobs, the craziest schedule we had was completing a photo shoot for 8 restaurants in a single day while finishing all the dishes! The work didn’t end there as we went home to edit photos while adding in captivating captions. We often slept at 3 or 4 am when we were first getting off the ground. We are thankful to have garnered many lovely followers who really enjoy following our food journey and in return, we always listen to their advice on what content they want to see. For those who would like to start something similar to Hangrydiary, our most important piece of advice is to find an angle that’s unique for your account. For Hangrydiary, our angle is always posting new, cute and of course, delicious restaurants which people can enjoy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about @HangryDiary – what should we know?
We are a part food blogger, part influencer and part semi-pro photographer (soon to be professional food photographer). In order to continuously innovate, we are beginning to include more travel destinations this year. We are known for our great capture of food and cute nails (we always do our nails to pair with food). We are proud of the people who follow us and is still with us on our food journey. We always include the location, pricing range and our ratings of the restaurants so it’s easy for our followers to choose. We also discuss in detail about our favorites such as Bistro Na’s for Chinese food and Republique for brunch. We run giveaways of our favorite restaurants to give back to our followers and hope they enjoy as much as we do.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
We think women do get more opportunities nowadays in terms of working in upper management, owning their own brands or being an influencer. Most women are detailed minded so they are good at discovering new items and planning. They are also independent and creative. We would say women nowadays, are well positioned to succeed in any area as long as they are willing to put in the time and effort.
