Meet Trailblazer Esthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esthy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I’ve always known that I wanted to do music. And although this instinct has never left me, there was a point in my life where I didn’t see it as a career option. Everyone went to university, chose a ‘decent’ job, and I felt the pressure of fitting in. – Until the point that I couldn’t anymore.

I finished university as a Communication Major, did a few years working at a 9-to-5 office job, but I felt like I was slowly drowning. I wasn’t on my own path.

I couldn’t see how I was going to make music and artwork for me as my full-time journey, but I did take a leap of faith regardless. And it was one of the hardest and easiest things I have ever done in my life. – It felt right, finally doing what I always wanted to; but sacrificing everything else that I’ve built around myself was extremely difficult. Because leaving your comfort zone is HARD – but it was definitely worth the struggle.

You might feel like you are losing everything, but you are finding the most important thing along the way – yourself.

Has it been a smooth road?
My advice is that it’s never too late to start. If you feel like there is something you want to do or you’re meant to do in life, go for it! If you are not using your full potential, you are not going to be as happy as you can be, and it’s always going to be at the back of your mind.

Also, never do it to prove others wrong or to try to impress people, do it for YOU. And if you like what you do, you can forget about everything else. It’s a cliche, but do what makes you happy. Don’t try to create something only for someone’s approval, fame or money, it will never work if it’s not authentic.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a pop singer-songwriter, artist. I play a little bit of most instruments, but I mostly use piano and guitar for building my songs. I love keeping my music in an acoustic form, but I also appreciate minimal pop production. I write only about what I see and experience, I never write about fictional events.

Most people don’t know, but I also do videos. I sometimes direct and produce other people’s music videos and short films. I love a good cinematic visual!

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
You have to be comfortable with who you are to make genuine connections, otherwise, you’ll just end up trying to please other people – and that’s going to come across as fake!
