Meet Trailblazer Brandy Wells

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Wells.

Brandy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my journey a decade ago when I became a mother to a now 12-year-old named Kennedy. When I gave birth to her, I was obsessed with learning about and supporting children. Her birth was in direct connection to me becoming a social worker. I started to support families and children who has histories of trauma. I then begin to be triggered by discovering that I also shared some of those same traumas, mine was abandonment. I would look at my husband be a parent to our now three daughters and I wanted those experiences for myself. I begin to start my healing journey so that I wouldn’t past down that same pain to my children. It’s then I begin to translate that message online. I showcased how we can parent consciously, mixed with my background, training, and education. I started to give my online community tools to challenge there own childhoods and how we can be better for our children to build the resiliency of an entire culture starting with our youngest people. Now, here I am today with an authentic voice online supporting parents from around the world via video conferencing, healing together, and raising future change seekers!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. Most of my struggles have came from my own insecurities. Online will have you feeling like you have to fit into a particular mold. My online presence it’s filled with beautiful, filtered pictures. It’s real, raw everyday me. I also struggle with wearing my heart on my sleeve, I am very transparent. I don’t want people to mistake my vulnerability with attention-seeking. And sometimes, I want my family to myself, and having an online business you have to have a certain work presence. Sometimes, I just want to be in a bubble. Every day these negative experiences occur, I’ll get a message, email, text from a woman who shares her story, or how she is inspired or challenged by me. It’s in those moments that keep me motivated to continue to show up and do the work I was assigned to do on this earth.

We’d love to hear more about My Motherhood Magic.
By day, I am an independently licensed social worker in Columbus, Ohio. I am contracted in a local suburban school district wherein that role, I educate teachers, staff, families, and children about the importance of mental health.

My business is My Motherhood Magic. A community online where I provide some soft tools and skills to make parents easier and challenge your perceptions on raising children. I now have an online consulting business where a parent or non-parent, can utilize my resources one on one via skype. We set goals, we family plan, we laugh, cry, and give support. I want to be a vessel for people using my expertise. We all don’t have the same interest. I love childhood mental health, most people don’t know what that can be made of. It’s my duty to teach.

What sets me apart is that my personal story is what built my passion. My healing has made me a conscious parent. People find value in that.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
I echo a message in my career of self-love. We are no good for anyone if we are not good to ourselves. Self-love and self-care are more than just daily practices, they are lifestyles. Our thoughts, manifest to our actions. Do the work to have brainpower and you will find it more easy to do anything else.
