Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Rakshith.
Hi Tony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born & raised in Hyderabad, India, and I always knew I was going to be a filmmaker when I grew up. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer & Electronics Engineering, but after working hard for four years and finishing it to meet societal expectations, I immediately wanted to pursue film school. Los Angeles was a dream vacation for me. But I decided, why don’t I apply to film schools in LA? I got in, and I moved here, and this place is exactly how you see it in the movies. Kind people and amazing food. I had the opportunity to go to film school on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s University with two thesis films. I premiered my 1st thesis film, A Week, at the Academy Award and BAFTA Award qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festivals. I am currently pitching my 1st feature film.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, LA might not be the place for you if you don’t want to face challenges. It has its way of teaching you things. Despite the countless obstacles this city throws at you, staying consistent and confronting them is the key to chasing your dreams in film.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a writer, director, editor, and producer. I specialize in these four crafts. I love taking total control of my work. I monitor them from pre-production to post-production. My films A Week and Double Edged are in the festival circuit at the moment. I am proud of moving to this country and city on my own and making films. Many people said it might not be possible, but I am working every day to make it possible. I feel multitasking sets me apart from others. When I make a movie, I multitask with the crafts I mentioned above. I don’t see it as a stress. I enjoy taking up those roles.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk is the only way to evolve in life. Without risk, you’re going to be stuck in the same place. Taking risks is the best gift you could give yourself. While the result can go either way, the lesson you learned will have a guaranteed impact on you, shaping your future for success.
