Today we’d like to introduce you to Tobore Oweh.

Tobore, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, I was born to two creative and entrepreneurial parents, a musically inspired father who played the saxophone for legends like Fela and a mother who owned a dental clinic, which she named after me. Although relocating to America at an early age, my deep-rooted love for my culture and background kept me grounded as my passion for design evolved. After freelancing with an array of notable companies in the floral and design industry, I relocated to Los Angeles in 2018 and launched my floral and design brand, The Petal Effect. As an avid lover of vibrant, bold colors and a sprinkle of glam, it is my hope to share the true essence of flowers and the colorful magic they bring to any space or special moment.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road but an experience and journey I cherish so deeply. Being a solopreneur, I have to wear so many hats in the course of the day, by the time my day is over, I feel so overwhelmed and exhausted. There’s no one to bounce ideas with, plan with, etc. to be honest, it’s brought me a lot of anxiety but I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world. I get to be my own boss, doing what I love and sharing the love through this beautiful form of art!

The Petal Effect is a unique floral and design boutique that caters to your well being and the well being of the people you love! With our clients being our main inspiration, we focus on elevating your intimate and workspaces, motivating your practice of giving, and building your community. We specialize in custom floral pieces for homes, businesses, gifting, intimate occasions and bespoke projects. We are known for our vibrant, bold and colorful pieces that are playful, fun and whimsical.

I am most proud of the love that is giving to my small black business. Never in my life would I have imagined the amount of love and support I have received from people I don’t know. Truly a humbling feeling! What sets us apart is our motto—flowering Your Consciousness. We believe in the power, beauty and art of flowers. That flowers aren’t only attractive to the eyes, but they possess magical energy that we as humans connect with through our souls and don’t even realize it a lot of the time. We believe that flowers, too, are a spiritual being having a physical experience and that flowers can teach us so much about how we can live a more intentional life as humans.

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
The one thing I would do over is having the confidence and believing in myself right from the start. Believing in my capabilities, talents, skills and owning my story from way back in 2012 when The Petal Effect was just an idea.
