Hi ting, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started TheraBox in 2017 while working full-time as a therapist. My goal was to take what I knew about psychology and mental health and make self-care tangible—because I understood the struggles women face with burnout, juggling multiple roles, and the challenge of prioritizing themselves. I wanted to simplify self-care and make it delightful for everyone.
Through my work as a therapist, I saw firsthand how small, consistent self-care habits could transform lives. Yet, I noticed how difficult it was for many people to make time for those small acts. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to building TheraBox has been anything but smooth, but the challenges have shaped me and the brand in profound ways. When I first started, I was still working full-time as a therapist, which meant long hours, late nights, and managing both roles simultaneously. Balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with my career was exhausting, but I was passionate about bringing TheraBox to life and believed in its mission.
One of the biggest hurdles was learning how to run a business. As a former therapist, my background was in helping people, not managing inventory, marketing, or handling logistics. I had to teach myself everything from sourcing products to running a subscription model, navigating financials, and building a brand from scratch. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty—especially when things didn’t go as planned, like delays in shipping or unexpected costs.
Another challenge was getting people to see self-care as a necessity rather than a luxury. Many of our customers were initially hesitant to invest in themselves, feeling guilty about spending money or time on self-care. It took consistent education and messaging to shift that mindset and help people understand that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential for long-term well-being.
Managing growth was also a major challenge. When demand for TheraBox started to pick up, it was both exciting and overwhelming. Scaling operations while maintaining the personal touch that’s so important to the brand was tricky. There were times when we made mistakes along the way, from fulfillment issues to juggling customer service needs, and we had to learn quickly to fix them while staying aligned with our core mission.
Through it all, the most important lesson I’ve learned is resilience. Every obstacle has been an opportunity to grow, both personally and professionally. The struggles made me realize that entrepreneurship isn’t about having a smooth road—it’s about navigating the bumps with grace, learning from setbacks, and staying connected to your “why.”
While the journey has been tough, it’s also been deeply rewarding.
