Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Heard.
Tiffany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my educational journey at Cal State Long Beach and went on to Howard University where I received my Masters in Social Work. As a social worker, I have been able to work with the following populations: children, elderly and families and areas such as mental health, displaced populations, and maternal health. I have always had a love for helping people and will continue to do so.
As a person who loves to travel and wants to help others, I have decided to combine my love of travel and my career field to become an international Social Worker.
Recently, I have been able to volunteer with All Hands and Hearts in the Virgin Islands to help rebuild homes. I also went to help teach Egnlish to Students in Spain.
I will continue to travel the world and bring along others with me both literally through my travel blog and physically by planning and organizing group trips.
In my free time, I enjoy acting on stage and love theatre.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life is never smooth sailing. There will always be bumps and rocks in the road. What I have learned is that although you have a set plan for your life, God has other plans. I believe for every unpaved road it is the opportunity to testify and help someone else. Someone once told me my suffering may not be about me but could be to help someone else go through there pain.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My business name is Sweet Tiffy’s Inspirations. I have a travel blog where I discuss my travels as a black female solo plus-size traveler. As I write, I highlight both the positives and challenges that come along with travel. Initially, I started the blog to document my travels but as I receive many messages about inspiring other women, I realize that I have a bigger purpose in life and it is not just about me.
I am currently in the process of creating an online course called “I am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made”. The purpose of the course is to help women of all ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomics increase their confidence in different areas of there life. The course will include video, powerpoint, and a workbook.
Eventually, I would like to incorporate the course into group trips around the world. My first group trip will be to West Africa, Ghana for the Year of the Return, I will kick off 2020 with a group trip to Cartagena, Colombia with my Plus-Size Beauties.
In addition, I am a public speaker and talk about subjects such as travel, mental health, motivation and much more.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
At the beginning, of the year I try to create a vision board that includes the following areas: Family, spiritual, career, love and health. I define success as accomplishing personal goals that I have set myself. I also have to constantly remind myself that some goals may not happen overnight but it doesn’t mean that I a, a failure and I did not succeed. It is important to acknowledge the small steps so you can celebrate the larger success. Don’t let others define what success looks like or let them tell you what you should or should not be doing.
