Meet Tayton Torson of Tate Paint & Repair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayton Torson.

Hi Tayton, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
(Very brief) Born and raised in Kansas. Moved to California at 18. Gave up. Tried it again at age 20. Haven’t looked back since. I was in restaurant for nine years as a “crutch” until I figured it out. Sure took me a long time to figure it out. I eventually started my own Handyman business about the end of 2024. I have always been good at troubleshooting and resolving problems when it becomes a non-social aspect. I’ve always been told I was good at my hands and I should pursue it as a career, but I never really put that much thought into it until the day came that I should put thought into it. A lot of the times, the things we truly desire are right in front of us. I’ve tried many things in the past personal training, learning to code, IT, restaurant, sales, real estate, you name it…. The saying “when you enjoy your work, you don’t work a day in your life.”, is very true! I’ve overcome many many obstacles to get where I’m at and a lot of those obstacles are built from my own actions and choices. When it comes to my business, I repair anything from computers, phones, various tech, up to remodeling houses. Since I was a very very young boy, I would take things apart, but not be able to put them back together until one day, I really focused on putting them back together instead of just taking apart, but also learning how it works and from then on I’ve been able to be successful in fixing a majority of problems I come upon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s a decently smooth road, of course you always come up upon rough spots. A lot of this I’ve been teaching myself if I haven’t learned it in the past . Of course, being resourceful is the main key, I believe to be successful in my field. One of the toughest struggles, is traffic. Especially if you happen to forget a piece or a tool and you have to run to the store and go in traffic, it’s just a mess. And another struggle, I would have to say is not having a certain tool for the job. A important thing in my field, is the right tool for the right job.. It’s kind of in a way fun though, because if you don’t have that tool, you have to go to the store and buy that tool and nothing like buying a new tool! But tools can be costly

We’ve been impressed with Tate Paint & Repair, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company name is Tates Paint & Repair, because if I’m not painting, then I’m repairing something. Painting would probably have to be what I do most. So to stay busy, I focus on picking up big jobs as in longer duration type jobs construction jobs, and then do side jobs after I get off that which is around two 3 PM and pick up an extra little cash and learn a little bit more about my trade while potentially gaining new clients. My motive is hospitality. I choose hospitality, even though I specialize in painting, repairing and installations, is because you’re working with clients, you’re working in their home or their personal spaces. The world can be a tough place and we don’t know what everyone is going through. So if I can offer my services as well as make them feel comfortable and know that their problem is now my personal mission to resolve and I have a solution that is guaranteed to work, then I’ll be able to go home and sleep well that night. What I am most proud of, is overcoming being a south side foster kid that everyone doubted, rose above, and was the hero to his own story
