Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Hoskins.
Summer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started singing and dancing when I was a child. My dance training started at a studio and I transitioned to being a part of a dance program at school. My family had a lot to do with why I love to sing, but I learned many fundamentals while participating in school choir as well. Dancing taught me a lot about patience and that improvement comes with hard work. Although I no longer take vocal lessons, I sing almost everyday because I want to grow and strengthen my sound. About two years ago is when I started to really start writing songs again. I felt an urge to write out my feelings instead of compressing them and expressing them in an angry way. Now my main focus is sharing the songs I have put so much of my heart into.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe my path has been easy, but I find the light in all situations. One of the biggest struggles I currently face is communication and having to rely on others to get certain things done. I understand that there are going to be challenges I need to face in order to grow on this journey, but I don’t like to waste time and appreciate when people are direct with me.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My name is Summer Breeze and it felt right to use it as my artist name. I believe I’m a spiritual representation of my name because I can feel my light shine through when I speak to or perform for others. For the past few months, my focus has been my ep “Fluidity” which will be released in December. I am learning to be more vulnerable with my art and I am proud of myself to having the courage to release my music.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA is a great place to make connections and meet so many people that are willing to create with you. People aren’t afraid to keep it real and will let you know if they are fucking with you or not. I don’t care for how crowded it is out here. I find myself able to create at a greater capacity when I am surrounded by nature. LA is becoming less and less about how beautiful the environment is and that does make me feel less connected to it.
