Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Berriel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Summer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My photography journey began when my youngest daughter was born, my obsession with capturing every moment turned into a passion. Now 13 years later, I photograph other people’s special moments, from weddings to families.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Learning my camera was the easy part, starting a business and actually turning a profit took nearly 3 years. The investment is pretty hefty but oh so worth the cost. I still struggle with life balance because a photographer’s job is typically on the weekends, it’s a lot of family time being missed.
Please tell us about Summer Shea Photography.
I am a fine art wedding photographer and lifestyle portrait photographer. What does that mean? Well fine art means, I’m more than just a document the day photographer, I like to curate the day to include timeless styled photos, and I shoot hybrid, both film and digital. As a lifestyle portrait photographer it’s the opposite, I photograph families, children etc. as they are. Authentic real moments, not posed or forced smiles.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would’ve done much differently, maybe quit my 9-5 job a little sooner, because working both jobs was pretty stressful.
