Meet Sofia Mera of South Bay, LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Mera.

Hi Sofia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for makeup began when I was just 4 years old. I still remember the excitement of receiving my very first makeup kit—and being completely fascinated watching my mom use her humble collection to enhance her natural beauty. It wasn’t just about the products; it was about the quiet confidence and joy that would shine through afterward. That moment stuck with me.

By the time I was 14, I had already started working with clients. What began as a childhood curiosity quickly evolved into a calling. Over the years, I’ve worked on a wide range of projects—collaborations, event glam, bridal makeup, and more. I’ve learned how to navigate challenging interactions with grace while creating meaningful, memorable experiences with each person I work with.

Though makeup is my first love, I’ve always been drawn to the full spectrum of cosmetology. I dabble in it all—hair, nails, skincare—anything that helps people feel like their best selves. I see beauty as both an art and a service, and I approach it with a deep respect for individuality.

I also do floral arrangements on the side and help manage and assist my mom’s business, Cristal’s Classics—a blend of creativity and legacy that I’m proud to be part of. That hands-on experience has helped shape my approach to business and deepened my passion for entrepreneurship.

Whether I’m blending eyeshadow or building brands, I thrive on connection and community. I genuinely love networking and finding ways to uplift others. This journey is constantly evolving, but it’s always rooted in creativity, service, and heart.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Not exactly—but I’ve come to believe that the most beautiful journeys aren’t meant to be. Mine has been layered with deep lessons, resilience, and a whole lot of heart.

Navigating my path as a young entrepreneur while being a parent and managing ongoing health challenges—including a history of cancer—has shaped me in ways I never expected. There have been days when simply showing up took everything I had, but those moments taught me how strong I truly am. They reminded me that even when your body slows down, your spirit can still move mountains.

The beauty world, while vibrant, can be demanding and fast-paced. I’ve had to gracefully navigate tough clients, long hours, and high expectations—all while listening to my body and honoring its limits. But in every challenge, I’ve found a reason to grow. I’ve built not just a skillset, but a sense of peace and purpose that no one can take from me.

I’ve also had to stand tall in spaces where I was underestimated, where my ideas were seen as “too ambitious” or my voice too soft. But every “no” just helped me get clearer on my “yes.” I lead with warmth, empathy, and quiet power—because that’s where real connection happens.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s this: the detours are part of the path. The storms build strength. And the journey, even when messy, is still mine—and it’s meaningful.

I’m not just chasing success—I’m creating impact, memory by memory, face by face. And I know the best chapters are still unfolding.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work lives in the world of beauty and connection. I specialize in makeup artistry, but I also work across hair, nails, and skincare—each medium offering a different way to help people feel like the most present and empowered version of themselves. Whether I’m preparing a bride for a deeply personal day, contributing to a creative collaboration, or offering a simple refresh to someone who just needs a moment of care, my approach is always rooted in intention. I believe beauty is more than polish—it’s presence, it’s energy, it’s trust.

Outside of my hands-on services, I assist with operational support and client communication for my mother’s business, Cristal’s Classics. That work has helped me stay grounded in the balance between artistry and service, creativity and consistency. I also design floral arrangements—a slower, quieter form of expression, but one that carries the same themes: meaning, memory, and love.

What I’m most proud of isn’t a single project or moment—it’s the ability to keep showing up with heart, even when the path has been complex. I’ve moved through seasons of healing, parenting, and personal growth while building a career I care about. And in that, my daughter is my greatest teacher. She’s a bold, tenacious dancer with a mind of her own and a heart full of light. Watching her grow has taught me how to move with grace, how to keep joy alive even in uncertainty, and how to lead by example—not just in words, but in how I treat people, how I work, and how I dream.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People usually see the glam, the flowers, the creative energy—but what might surprise them is that a lot of what I do is rooted in stillness. I’m drawn to quiet moments, slow beauty, and the kind of connection you can’t rush. I pay close attention to energy, and I let intuition lead a lot of my process—whether I’m doing makeup, arranging flowers, or just holding space for someone to feel like themselves again.

Oh—and here’s a fun little secret: I sing. I don’t talk about it much (and you won’t catch me announcing it on a mic anytime soon), but singing’s been this quiet love of mine since I was young. It’s my go-to when no one’s around—or sometimes when they are, if I forget I’m being heard. It’s one of those things that helps me reconnect to myself, especially when words fall short. Just another creative outlet that keeps me feeling grounded and full.
